Hey all,

I'm gonna look at this 97 4wd sr5 this weekend and I was looking at the pictures and was wondering, Is the RR diff locker button on the left of the steering wheel next to the light dimmer or is it on the panel of button access on the left side of it? I have a picture, let me know if you think its the button next to the light dimmer. I think it says Rear Diff Lock in orange but cant make it out.

Wow, 5 speed with a diff lock! Nice!

I'd heard that diff locks were more common with automatics but I don't know for sure.

I got one too. liking it for sure. how many miles and asking price?

I picked mine up for 6k with 117k miles. had to replace the rear axle 4 days after i bought it, but that got fixed and been playing ever since.

OME, new tires and front CBI bumper. rear soon to be.

I believe most of the rear diff locks were on Limiteds, and I think all Limiteds were autos, so that makes sense.

Nice find!

just cause it has the button doesnt mean it has the locker, i ran into a dealer that put the button in there to try and sell it as one with a locker, just look under neither the truck at the rear third, if on the front of the drivers side of the third member there is an electric looking motor sticking out/off the 3rd then you have the locker if not, well you just have a $35 button/switch... not trying to burst your bubble but just check to make sure

Just test the locker to make sure it engages.

I agree, I'd be surprised if many lockers work in the salt states, the salt and dirt kills the actuators. Even if the locker just hasn't been used in 10 years, there is a good chance the actuator is seized.

This weekend I may finally get under my truck to pull out the actuator to find out if it is fixable.

Nope that one is for us 01,02 4runners that have the 4wd for street use . Thats the center diff lock, locking the front and the rear axles together when you go offroad.

Awesome! Im excited now! Its in socal and asking $6999 @ 134k. Its been sitting there for 1.5 months and was listed at $7500. With gas prices here and people into prius and 50mpg its not moving as fast. I think if I wait a few more weeks he will drop the price even more. Here is what the exterior looks like. But I dont like the interior blue, but oh well, it will do, as long as drive train and motor are good, Im good. Let me know what you think. Thanks again for the kind replies! Cheers!

Wow...manual and a rear locker! Rare find for sure. All it needs now (if you buy it) is a lift, diff drop, bigger tires, front bumber, rear bumper, running boards removed, baja rack, tranny cooler, sliders, air locker (for the front), on-board compressor, winch, etc... :-)

Hope you can work a deal out for it. You may want to get it soon since you posted the location and someone else may swoop in on ya!!

No trans cooler needed with a manual so he's already a step up there!

Go buy that truck!

What I meant was cooler um......well, there's no real recovery after that one. Rookie mistake!! You got me! Cooler interior maybe? He said he didn't like it. I recommend seat covers that have like skulls, knives and chipmunks or wombats on them. Wombats are always cool.

And yes, you should go buy it.

If you plan to test-drive the locker, just know that it'll only work in 4lo...until you buy it and do the blue wire mod. Then it'll work whenever you want.

...& another 5-speed SR5 w/elocker here....
