Rear end spring clunk

I've had my truck for a few months now. I've noticed offroad and over speed bumps the drivers side rear would make a hollow clunk noise. Crawled under it today and gave the springs a shake. To my surprise it moved. The other side was nice and tight. What part is causing this to happen. My springs dont appear to be sagging at all.

Does it appear to be cracked? There’s a rubber jounce stop on the top see if it is seated correctly. Also the bottom of the spring should be seated into the metal base. It would probably be worth jacking the back up and making sure. Is the shock on that side tight on its mounts?

Where are you located?

I had the same thing happen

and it turned out to be that the track bar bolts anchoring it were loose. Once they were tightened no more "clunk".

Shock seems nice and tight. When i grab the coil and move it, it seems to make a metallic clunk from the spring perch. I can feel a very minute amount of play when the noise is made. Doesnt appear that the spring is broken. I'm gonna be doing the fj springs and 5100s ti delete the xreas in a few months, but I'd like for it to quiet down a little till then. Lol. It got more pronounced after a 17mile unpaved road yesterday. It wouldnt do it all the time before.

Pa. There isnt a whole lot of rust underneath, just some surface spots around.

I'll check those here in a few also.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Sounds like something is broken. The reason I say this, even if you jack the rear end until both wheels are off the ground hanging by sway bar links and shocks, those springs should still be tight in there. Having done the same swap you are talking about doing, I can speak from experience, even my worn out old OEM springs were still tight between axle and body until I disconnected the end links and shocks. So I'm curious what you find.

If you got a broken spring I have a stock set and an fj set each with 100k miles on them I can ship you

It doesn't move a whole lot. Its definetly not coming out. If I grab the coil in the center and push or pull, you can hear a quick pop/knock. I took a hammer and tapped it at the bottom. Now the spring isnt making the noise. When I tap the hammer on the coil it sort or resonates until I grab it, like a tuning fork. I'll try and get a video after work

Could be that the upper spring perch rusted through., dont ask how I know

From the wheel well, If you look between the frame and the body, you might see that the spring is pushed up to the body.
