Finally got my rear locker installed on the 4th gen sometime last week. Just had a chance to try it out and make sure it works! (it was all soft stuff so I couldn't tell but I'm excited!!)

For those that are seriously considering getting a rear locker. Make sure you order the RD23 as this is the correct number. The installation should be a piece of cake for any shop to do (I for one am not skilled enough to do this mod...) You can shop around for prices on labor as that will vary. Also make sure you factor in the cost of the labor for the wiring up as well as getting the compressor all connected as well. Rates will vary according to location (mine was $$$ but they offer a lifetime warranty on the installation so no worries for me I guess).

Anyway.. (no photos of the rear member since I'm in some work clothes...) here are some photos of the switch! The switch I used was the stock ARB compressor and the 80 series LC switch.

Front angle of locker switch (can control both front and rear - obviously no front yet) Notice where my CB is located. It fits perfectly in that spot (abit of trimming as usual). The open spot on the right fits perfect for my cell phone! woohoo!

Nice! I'm sure you off road hungry members have been waiting for this.

I don't think I'd ever be in a situation where I'd need that since I'm mostly a city boy, but kudos to you!
 
NICE! I realized this weekend how much I miss my 3rd gen 4rner and it's factory locker... the 4th gen just kind of sucks when you get crossed up :( bummer-uski! Give me my locker back! (and I am not use to the lower ground clearance.. managed to rip the stock exhaust to shreads... opps.. guess it is a good excuse for Borla:) Already ordered.

So how much did teh ARB locker set you back?
 
Surprisingly I was able to get thru trails where the 3rd gen had to be locked in the rear so I know the ATRAC system really really works well compared to the 01/02 model (first introduced).

I've seen the RD23 (rear) locker for between 675-850 (approx). You'll need the wiring harness (ARB) which round anywhere between 35-50 as well as a compressor (w/ wiring but most comes completely) - these vary according to what kind you use.

Labor can vary as well but the ball park is around 400-800.

good to know. Thx. I got crossed up on some bumps on a slope that would put me into a tree if is slipped (so slow and deliverate was important!)... I locked the center diff, and i heard the brakes doing a little bit of clicking and whirling, but the end result was my 4rner with on front and one back tire spinning freely in the air. I wasn;t about to blip the throttle hoping for the system to kick in at higher RPMs. I was able to back out and try it about 10 times... no luck, same result regardless of which line i took. I expected the system to brake the free tires but it either didn't.. or didn;t break them enough to get me over the hump. very frustrating. I have taken my old 98 SR5 w/locker down this road many times... i just needed to lock up the rear and it rolled right over.
