rear main seal leak?

At the risk of sounding like a noob (which I kinda am)
Is this a rear main seal leak?

It is a leak but not the rear main. It looks like the transfer case driveshaft seal.


Easier to fix then the rear main seal.

of course there is always the option of watching the fluid levels and seeing what happens.... that is what I did to my 3.slo before i ended up fixing a leaking seal on the transfercase, rear axel seals and intakegaskets.... and a bunch of other stuff.... the truck was still very much drivable but looking at fluid leveles ever tank of gas or so got real old real fast.
so i just fixed it

Have you checked the level of the transfer case fluid? Wash every thing down, check fluids and then watch for leaks. The output seals on the transfer case are known to go on these runners. Might be as simple as that!

Thanks, I'll most likely pick up the parts this weekend and give it a try.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on it, it's a slow leak but still a pain.

Hi Wade. I agree with what's been stated above. To find the leaks on my rig, I washed everything down with degreaser, top to bottom. Even got under the truck and scrubbed all of the areas I could, to get it as clean as possible.....and then made sure all of my fluids were at the proper level. And then watched the levels closely.....and climbed underneath the truck on the weekends to identify any new wet spots on the engine/tranny. It should be relatively easy to identify where the leak(s) are coming from.
