rear mud flap

My girlfriend has a 2008 SR5. I took off her rear mud flaps for aesthetic purposes. When i removed it, it looks as if the rear flaps serve to connect the rear bumper to the rear wheel well. So i am thinking about cutting off the portion that extends down and then reattaching it. Are all the rear fenders the same on the 4th gen's(SR5, Sport, Limited)?

'03-'05 are the squarish ones and '06-'09 are the rounded ones, same regardless of trim. it has been covered before. Please Search next time.
