Rear shock cover plate?

Is there suppose to be any type of cover or plate over the top of the rear shock mount bolt?
It's the bowl area that the shock goes up through, just fills up with dirt/water etc...

No, nothing goes there other than crud and rust. Poor design, IMO.

Agreed. When I was replacing my old struts a bunch of OBX sand came spilling out :wow:
