Rear Spring Sag Question

The question may have been answered already, but my 4Runner is having this issue. My dad work at an auto body shop and told me that all I need to do is replace the springs and shock absorbers.
What my question is, what is the best replacement springs and shock absorbers for my truck. I want to keep it the same height, I like to keep my truck as factory as possible.

I have a 1992 Toyota 4RUNNER SR5 3.0L V6.

What are some good quality replacements?

There's not as much available in stock height replacement springs as there is lift springs.
Moog is one brand that comes to mind.

I personally have the moog cc255 springs in my truck. They do give it that stock height again. Just make sure you replace the shocks too or it defeats the purpose. I personally added daystar 1 1/4 spacers on top of them too. It gives the truck a slight rake to it, which i love the look of. Best of luck thou.

You might consider the following:
1) moog rear coil springs(std)
2) shocks- bilstein, factory , or the like
3) rear control and lateral arm bushings, urethane (suspension.com)
comment: no affiliation with any co's mentioned.

The above mentioned parts really got the proper stance back on our 1990 4runner. I did rebuild the front suspension and have the truck re-aligned.

I've looked at the pictures of your truck and I really like the height. Were those pictures taken after you installed the springs and the spacers?

I honestly dont remember. I wanna say they were with the springs but not spacers. If ya can give me til tomorrow i have the day off and ill snap ya some better pics of the stance

Here ya go... The pictures dont really do it justice. Due to the rain and it being winter I had to wash it indoors so this is the best i got. But ya can get the general idea. The spring i bout at rock auto for a fair price, the spacers i got on ebay for around $40. The close up is of the daystar spacer

I have purchased a set (for the rear). As well as new Bilstein shock absorbers. Your answers have been so helpful. Thank you so much.

Sag

My 2001 4Runner has the same exact issue with the sag in the back. I put new tires on it last week and I now know why it sags. The rear stock springs are so thin. My plan is to get replacement springs and OME shocks and fix this problem. The replacement springs are much stiffer.

Lift kits all day!

Timely topic; FedEx should be delivering my Moog springs and Monroe shocks from Rock Auto today (went cheap on shocks; anything has to be an improvement over what’s on it).

Hmm…..wonder if I should add the spacers. Guess I could install the springs and if I think it needs more lift, add them later (a lot more work, though)

Our 4runner with Moog springs, factory shocks, and urethane bushings in the rear specs out:
1) measure from lip of steel rim(top) to lip of the rear quarter(bottom) 13 inches
or
2) measure from top of tire tread, or tire to the lip of the wheel well (rear quarter) is about 6 3/4 -7 inches
Thought this might help for comparison. Anymore lift on our truck would compromise stability on the highway, for us. When I rebuilt the rear suspension, the new rear bushings in the control arms/lateral rod raised the suspension about an inch at least. The original bushings were shot with 60k original on them, albeit 20+ years of aging. Hope this helps.

I feel as though people with both 1st gens and 2nd gens find that factory replacement spring packs or coil packs (1st or 2nd gen) usually result in a look that still appears to have rear "Sag". The spacers are probably your best bet. 2" over stock height in the rear usually winds up looking close to level from what I understand.

Thats because the rear fenders are cut about 2" lower than the fronts, giving it the "mom butt" appearance.

There is no sag on ours. Specs for suspension:
Front- factory shocks, urethane control arm bushings, new ball joints, Sway-A-Way 25mm torsion bars, factory alignment specs
Rear- Moog springs, factory shocks, urethane bushings
It probably would have been a tad higher if I'd gone with Bilsteins.

I'm going thru the same rear end sag issue on my 95'! I have already purchased the Moog cc255 coils but, reading thru this thread it looks like I should be looking into spacers and shocks! Any rec's on the shocks?????

Don't confuse sag with the fact that 1st and 2nd gens have smaller rear wheelwells. Measure frame height behind the front wheels and in front of the rears. Mine sits level although if u looked at it from the side you'd swear it was sagging. FWIW
