Recaro Seat Install

This is my second time around here with a 3rd gen 4Runner. I had a 99 SR5 back around 2002-2007 or so.

I just recently acquired a very nice 99 Limited. I had installed a Recaro seat in the first 99. see this original thread: ( http://www.toyota-4runner.org/engin...seat-recaro-seat-anyone-done.html#post1326988 )

That seat went through a few cars, and a second seat came along around 07. I saved the original Wedge Engineering bracket from the first runner so doing the install in the "new" Limited was a piece of cake.

The Limited, having power seats, made wiring that much easier because Toyota routed power right under the seat, instead of me having to route a lead through the firewall like on the SR5. I removed the seatbelt attachment and its wiring from the OEM seat. Then I just had to determine which wire was "hot" and go from there. Everything is bolt in and the whole job took maybe an hour.

What seat is this? I've been looking to replace my limited seats.

This is called the Recaro "Style" seat. It comes with power height, power recline, heat, cooling, air lumbar, manual bolster adjustment, manual seat extension, and manual fore and aft adjustment.

The one that is pictured in my Runner, I purchased new in 2005 from a shop in California for about $900. It retailed for about $1100 at the time. The sliders are extra, and you need the vehicle specific bracket, which you can order from Wedge in California.

The shop had one ordered by another customer who backed out last minute. Since I had previously ordered another Recaro from him a few years before, he gave me a deal. I haven't checked the prices these days but they have to be alot more.

Check Recaro's site for sizing; I think they had a size chart. You want to make sure you pick a seat that will fit you. I don't remember the specifics but this seat worked for me. I am 6'3" and 215 lbs.

I am looking at putting Recaro seat in mine. Does it reduce your overall distance to headliner? I'm looking to lower my seat overall.

Looks nice. I recently threw some Sparco Fighters into my 02 Tacoma on Sparco Brackets and sliders. From the looks of the brackets they'd likely bolt into a 4runner as well. Nice and comfortable, supportive and gained tons of rear legroom to boot.

Tacoma seat brackets do not work on 4runners without some welding modifications. Definitely worth running actual 4runner mounts over a Tacoma mount if possible.

I don't think it significantly changes the headroom either way (in comparison to the range on the stock electric seat). At 6'3" I had to slightly duck getting into the truck regardless, but then I have plenty of headroom when seated. (yes there is a sunroof)

The Recaro sliders have "legs" with 3 holes for height setting when you install/mount to the Wedge bracket. Because of the shape of the floor pan, I had to cut the forward right hand "leg" down in order to lower the front of the seat enough to be comfortable (otherwise it would hit the floor pan). I cut off one hole worth. After some use I almost feel like I could cut off one more, but just haven't felt like taking it all out to do that. Hope this helps.

BTW there is another company called Planted Technology, that also makes all kinds of seat brackets, that you might want to look at as well. (I looked at them for putting an aftermarket seat into my wife's Crosstrek). It looks like a very nice product.
