Recent Build Dates vs actual Delivery Date

Finally came in

My new 4Runner just showed up in dealership in Tennessee - Production date: 10/5, Put deposit on 10/26, port 11/4, Dealership: 12/11
My pickup on 12/16 since I have to fly there...

I currently have a deposit down for an access cab TRD Off-Road Tacoma. I'm planning on changing my deposit to an SR5 4WD 4Runner. I haven't spoken to my dealer yet about the switch but hopefully it won't take more than the 100 days they quoted on the Tacoma.

I switched my allocation/order from the Tacoma to a Super White 4WD SR5 4Runner. The dealer said it should be 45-60 days. We'll see how close that estimate is!

Are these built-to-spec orders or are the dealers just trying to snag allocations that happen to match colors/options that a customer wants?

I was told that Toyota doesn't accept custom orders like other car manufacturers, at least the dealers that buy from the Southeast Toyota distributor.

As I understand it, there are two (overlapping) paths but neither are traditional build-to-order.

1) Dealer places a 'preference order' with Toyota which is considered during that dealer's upcoming allocations. Decision to fill the order as spec'd is at Toyota's discretion.

2) Unrelated to a specific preference order, Toyota gives the dealer their monthly allocation that includes model/trim/color and a build date. New car manager at the dealer reviews the allocation relative to any pending deposits or wait list customers and can then customize the build prior to reaching the build date so the 4Runner aligns with a customer request.

This is based on my limited experience in speaking with a handful of dealers during my search. I welcome corrections/clarifications from anyone with more experience.

My salesman called today and said my SR5 should arrive on January 15th or 16th! I switched my deposit from a Tacoma to a 4Runner on December 18th so under a month for delivery isn't bad these days.

Almost a year since I placed my deposit. Toyota is still not sending any KDSS's to the northeast (nyc).
There are plenty on the west coast. I contacted 2 dealers but they are not selling out of state.

Why Toyota?!?!?

My SR5 arrived today after a three week wait. It was originally supposed to come in this weekend but it came in early. I won't be taking delivery until Saturday. The wait is already killing me!

Jumped on a 4runner trail edition lunar rock that was allocated to my local dealer. Was told it'll arrive by mid April. I was given a spec sheet with vin number on it. Checked the vin on toyota vehicle specification site and build date is January of 2022 but no delivery date but does say some of the accessories have port installed on them. I was curious so did a vin report and see that there was a sales reported 2 days ago. Does that mean the dealer took ownership on it in some way? Can anyone help me decode what I'm seeing?

What site are you using to see this info?

2022 Estimates

Just worked with my dealer on a new 4 runner - he had no estimate for delivery. what is everyone experiencing in 2022?

Well, I can add my experience so far in 2022.

I ordered an army green 2022 trd off-road in December of 2021 and I'm still waiting...

My dealer said dealers in New England are getting very few 4runners. I also know that there have been earthquakes in Japan in recent months so that has slowed production a bit, since 4runners are solely built in Japan. I'm hoping that this week I get an update and some good news since I've waited over 5 months now.

A lot will depend on your place in line for your color/trim/options combo and the overall volume of the dealer (dealers that sell more cars get more allocation each month).

Deposit placed early December, dealer finally got an allocation last month. Built on 22nd, loaded on the ship on the 30th, arrived at port last week.

Where are you finding this info?

I know in the Vspec section of the owner portal, but I don't see anything this detailed. The closest I see is in "Port of Factory Installed Equipment", but assume that actually has to do with where optional equipment is installed.

Thanks!

:noidea:

I tried this with the 2023 Lunar Rock ORP that I have a deposit on but all I see is the order date - there is no build date, shipping date, port or anything else :( What am I missing here? ::noidea:

For what its worth my 2023 build date was 04/23 and purchase date was 05/29/23 and I believe it was delivered to the dealer in NC around 05/15.
