Record keeping

Any specific apps you can track maintainence with? 1995 called and they wanted the notepad with all my oil change dates and mileage.

There's gotta be a better process seeing as we're all glued to a smartphone these days.

I write it in the owner's manual. Reciepts go in an envelope that is either in the car or in the metal box at home with the titles.

Technology has not been friendly to me. Much more likely to crash/disappear than something on paper.

I use google spreadsheet and add to it as I go. Its on all my devices.

As others have said, Google Sheets for me. It's simple, multi-platform, cloud-based, etc. I have a tab for work performed with the columns you'd expect to find, and then a tab for upcoming work with things like symptoms, part numbers, links to walk-throughs, estimated cost/time, etc.

I also keep physical copies of the receipts for pretty much everything from work done at a shop (handy for warranty purposes) and parts purchased. The file itself is getting a bit big, so I might cull some of the stuff that is out of warranty and won't matter if I have. However, if I thought I'd be selling it at some point I probably would just keep them all for the next owner.

Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of meticulous record keeping! Your loved ones won't understand...until that one time... Yeah, we're nuts.

I just put labels in the glove box. Sometimes on the part. I have to label the install work i do in my career it becomes habit on the car too

Man, some of you guys are organized. I've always just done it the low-tech way with a piece of paper, divided into 3 columns (Date, Mileage, Work Done). When I fill up one sheet, I add another. I keep all my receipts in a manilla envelope so I can research a part number or whatever I've done in the past.

One thing I started doing recently is keeping a 3x5 card in my rig with a list of maintenance services coming up by mileage. This way I do things on time and I don't have to keep looking back in my maintenance records for what I should be doing next to keep the rig running in top shape.

I stopped keeping most receipts when it became clear after a few years of holding on to them that I would never use them again. *Unless its a major part/repair with warranty*

All I've found to be necessary is to keep a notebook in glove box with maintenance record and a spreadsheet with all my mods and associated costs.
