Redline MT-90 - yikes

I bought my truck roughly a year and a half ago. When I first got it I changed all the fluids. I went with Redline MT-90 in the trans since it seems to be the go to. Well that was 8000 miles ago and it's time to replace the clutch. This is what that Redline looks like now......

Got MT90 in mine right now and as the weather is getting colder I think I am gonna switch to 75W110 Amsoil Severe Gear and give that a whirl. Not super impressed with the Redline so I am gonna try a GL5.

I guess since there was ~230,000 miles on the original trans fluid, the redline did a good job cleaning it up. I just can't believe how dirty it got in such a short period of time.

I think that's exactly what you're seeing.

Having a POE base stock, the MT90 will clean very effectively.

I ran Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil in my transmission for the the first 13 years I owned it. So the transmission was very clean from running that PAO based gear oil.

5 years ago, I switched to the MT90. Just recently I checked the condition of the MT90. It was nearly the same in color and consistency as new MT90.

The stuff is great. I still have some quart bottles that are seven plus years old and would have no reluctance using them today.

Huh? It's actually notchier than it was with the stock fluid but smooths out more and is a better fluid so I run it.

Hey, there is no law of physics that says every driver will have the same experience. For me, the truck has never shifted so smoothly. New shift seats at the same time, helped, too. Maybe you should do yours, if you haven't.

Interesting you mention seats...it appeared as if my transfer case seat had completely fell apart. Tons of tiny pieces of plastic when I pulled the shifter.

When I bought my truck with 190k on the trans it didn't really like going into 1st or 3rd did a drain and fill with redline mt90 gl4 and after a week everything was butter, after a few months did another drain and fill with mt90 gl4. Old fluid was slightly darker but still mostly clear.

My problem now is it likes to slip out of 1st when I come off the throttle while it's still cold.

Mine was trash, too.

Get these heavy duty ones from Marlin Crawler. You need a white one for the trans and blue one for the TC. Does wonders for your shift feel. At the time, they had a really good price (better than Amazon or Rockauto, but those things change) on the Aisin clutch slave cylinder, so I did that, too, as PM.

Are you going to have a lift for the clutch job? I did it on the ground but it was not easy. It was my first clutch job, excluding a lawn tractor, and it took all I had to do it by myself.

One step ahead of ya. Seats are already at the house, clutch and flywheel should be in today (marlin had a back order on some parts). No lift, just me and a buddy. It's already on ramps and I put a bit of time starting to tear it down yesterday, tomorrow's the big day.

For some reason I read that as you were saying that about my experience. That's what I get for working late.

Carry on! Good luck. Hardest part was spearing the trans back on towards the end. A buddy will be very helpful.

No joke about that. I worked it for a while by myself with no luck, had to call my old man. I think a trans jack in lieu of my MC jack with 4x4 jig would have helped too.
