Relatively quiet tires

I'm finally changing out my wheels and tires on my '15 Trail Edition. I've settled on the FN fX Pro wheels, but here's the dilemma.. Like the vast majority here, this rig spends 90% of it's time on the road.
I've got a new pup, and in the Fall I want to take her to Maine and maybe kill a bird or two for her. That means six hours on the Interstate, and one thing I don't need is to arrive with a headache from the drone of off-road tires.
So, I want a tire off road capable, but it needs to be relatively quiet and good in snow and wet roads. Good manners..
My short list is the Toyo Open Country AT2, the Falken AT3 and possibly something from Nitto. The Toyo is a rather old 5 bar design and I wonder if something else would be quieter..

Looking for answers from those with experience with these tires, or possibly something else I should be looking at..

Jk this has been hashed out several times. Quiet is subjective, all the tires you mentioned would make you happy I bet. IMO it’s best just to buy one and not worry about it, you can spend days reading about tires here and still not know what to decide.

Toyo AT2 is the quietest, quieter than its sister(Terra Grappler). Won't get quieter with the AT category.

I have the Fn FX Pro with Falken Wildpeak. The Wildpeak are really quite coming from KO2. They did great in snow/wet conditions. And MUD!!

Add the General Grabber AT2 to your list slightly noisier than the stock tires and they have the snow flake so they are good for winter conditions.

Noise is all relative, I took the family on a 3000 mile road trip last summer from Alberta Canada to Moab to Ouray and back with no problems. And I've got the full Bajarack and its pretty tolerable for us.

I had the KO2's, and while they didn't howl while new, they did have a whirr to them. I had wet/cold traction concerns and swapped to the Cooper Disco AT3's. They're even quieter and smoother, I only hear them with radio off, windows down, and driving next to a K-rail. I had 18kmi on the KO2's when I ditched them, just passed that on the Disco AT3's. I have heard the KO2 gets a little howl once it wears down.

noise/quietness is very subjective. I've had KO1's to 60k and it never bothered me in the noise department, and now I have KO2's and noise is never a problem. They are quiet enough to where I hear whistling coming from my roof rack than I do from tire howling. So to me, the KO2's are pretty much silent.

I replaced my KO1s, due to me trading in my vehicle at the dealer. at 60k, the ride was getting pretty firm due to them being over 5 years old, and maybe a slight hum that I can hear if I had the windows down, but I have to really try and listen for it.

My passengers have never commented about tire noise w/ either ko1 or ko2's.

Second vote on the Cooper at3’s. They will check off all of the things you are looking for but don’t have as aggressive look as some of the others. Unlike the others you can also get them in LT Load range c. In the LT version they have 18/32 of tread depth, which is a deeper then all of the others even though they don’t look as aggressive. They don’t have a snowflake symbol like the Wildpeaks or gabber at2 but they handle winter conditions as well as any AT Tire i’ve owned.

Check Tire Rack. They may have reviews about the tires you are considering. Ranking things like traction, road noise, etc.

I put almost 200,000 miles on my ‘06 4Runner sport and all but the first 40k were on Firestone Destination A/T’s. I bought an ‘11 Limited and recently hasd Falken Wildpeak AT3’s in it. I just picked up my ‘18 TRD-P and it has the stock Nittos.

Here’s my take. Out of the 3, the Destination AT’s are by far the quietest. They also lasted 60k with rotations every 5k. They are also great in the snow. The negative being, they don’t look terribly aggressive.

The Wildpeaks look awesome. I feel they’re fairly loud. Now...not like Super Swamper loud, but much louder than the Deatinations. They’re phenomenal in the snow though!

I have had the Nittos literally 1 day, so the only thing I can say is they’re are about as loud as the Wildpeaks.

If you are looking for super quiet, very durable, and great in all weather, the Firestone Destination AT is an awesome choice!

The Cooper AT3s were an average of 1db QUIETER than the stocks when I took a 2 min reading @ 70 mph with a decibel meter on my phone.

I couldn't be happier with mine (265 70 17, C Load).

I had the Copper AT3s. They are a great tire, but now that I live in Colorado, they were not cutting it for me in the snow/icy/slushy conditions (you mentioned snow). I currently have Nokian Rotiiva AT Plus and they are super quiet, more so than the AT3 (already a quiet tire) and have much better traction in winter conditions. I have them in 275/70/17 C load, slightly bigger than stock, but fit just fine with no modifications. They are also available in stock size (E load). I haven't had a chance to try them offroad yet, but I'm expecting the Coopers to be have the edge in that area. My offroading is light/medium duty, so that's a compromise I'm willing to make for the better onroad manners and winter traction. If winter driving is no consideration, the AT3s are a fine tire. If it is, I'd consider the Cooper ATW instead of the AT3.

I have Toyo Open Country AT's on mine. Before I put them on I did a dB test inside the cab at 65MPH. After the tire went on I did another. Same road, same speed. If there was any difference in road noise it did not show up on the meter.

The tires work well off road, but I can't say about snow, because we just haven't had any this year. The warranty 65,000 is better than most of the others out there. Looked at Cooper and liked them, but the warranty was only 55,000 and the price was about the same.

I'll go against the grain and say that if you are heading into locations that get a lot of snow or roads frequently left with ice between the lanes skip the Cooper at3

I never thought they were great in the winter but did well otherwise. Fairly quiet and look good but the snow driving experience was worse than regular highway tires.
