Remote Start-Even dealer said go after market!

Asked the service dept for a quote and he said he would never sell me one due to all the ridiculousness Toyota hasn't addressed (shutoff when door opens, range, etc). Referred me to another shop up the street, who quoted me an Avital for $350, which includes an app.

Any other remote start recommendations that come with a smartphone app? Parking at work is BVR so an app would be ideal!

I recommend Compustar. I have an older Avital and it is ok but the compustar on my 5th gen blows it out of the water. I also have the app (Drone moble).
 
While the shut off when I open the door is a minor annoyance I've never had an issue with the range. I generally walk across the office floor and start it up from the 3rd floor, by the time I get down it's warmed up. I'm sure aftermarket performs better but I'm happy with factory.

I got the dealer to throw this in when I purchased and didn't know the details with it.

While I don't love the fact that it shuts off when I open the door, I find the range perfectly acceptable.

I have no issue starting my vehicle from my desk which is a considerable distance from my vehicle sitting at the other end of the parking lot (and through a double window for what that's worth).

My dealer said basically the same thing and I got mad and told him they were going to install it or I was going elsewhere. Later that day I did some research and it appeared he was being straight with me so I cancelled the install. I'm very glad I did!

I got an Arctic Start Edge 2x installed along with a Fortin Evo All. The Arctic Start is basically a cheaper Compustar, they function the same. The range is unbelievable and the engine doesn't shut off when you open the door. I also have lots of potential for upgrades. You can make the remote put windows up/down or turn on your defrost. Supposedly your toyota remote will start your 4R by hitting lock lock lock but the installer couldn't get that working for me. I like the range of the aftermarket remote anyway but that would be a nice feature to have.

Is your the Toyota factory remote start. They forced me into mine on the truck I ordered. It was already on the build sheet. I was shocked at how much they charge for it. I think it was $350
 
TRD- yes it is. I think it's called the VIP, and integrated with the existing key fobs.
And, yes, I think full retail for it was something closer to 500. Nuts.

For that, I would have definitely explored other options had I been paying for it.

I have the factory RS and thinking about an aftermarket too. Its getting bone shivering cold here and i have to literally stand 15-10 ft to start this thing which defeats the purpose of having a RS. I might as well hop in there and start it. And yes i just installed a new remote battery.

If yes, he was not forced. If no, he had the choice to accept it or not. See?

your installer couldnt get it to work because of fortin's protocol. some data to data functions do not exist between the compustar and fortin. 3x start is one of them. aslo he may get it to work if he used the correct settings and hard wired in the module to 3x lock start.

FYI fortin has yet again changed their wiring diagrams. Now it says on the smart key vehicles only 2010 vehicles will work. 2011-2015 are SOL. I have 3 fortin evo-all's in stock and when i get a smart key 4runner in i will reposrt back if it still works.

It was in my case, the distributor added my sliding cargo tray. You have the option to not buy the car, you don't have the option to buy the car without it. See?

So if you want the car, you are technically forced into it. The dealer can not take off distributor added items, well i'm sure they will take them off but they won't take them off the price. You'll just be paying for it and not getting it.

Kind of like the window tint southeast distributors add, which they charge 299-399 and that is the ULTIMATE rip off. Thankfully it wasn't added to my 4runner.

I purchased a TRD Pro I didnt not have any choices, if I wanted this truck. What the dealer added to it when it was ordered was what I have to pay for.

Remote start, Ridgid Running Boards, and Roof rack cross bars. Were added to my build over a grand in extras.... Which I was "forced to buy with my choice of truck"

welcome to t4r

I have a Prestige AS9234 which uses the factory remote, so far its been a huge headache. I think alot of it is installer error and i have fixed most of the issues.
