Removing the brake rotor

I'm in the process of replacing a bunch of suspension parts, and as such, I need to remove the brake rotor from the front wheel. I've got the caliper off (and I think my pads were sticking, but that's another thread sometime), and I can't seem to figure out how to get the rotor off the hubs. Any ideas?

It's been a while, but IIRC there are 2 little clearance slots on the inside of the knuckle where you can tap the rotor off with a brass bar.

Do I have to remove that big nut underneath the hubs?

I'm having doubts that I can pull this off...

I think you have to take that big nut off...I just had an adventure trying to get my rotors off to get them machined, but didn't have the tool for the giant nut thing on the hub and wasted an hour for nothing

Probably not a timely suggestion but you need a factory service manual. That clearly shows how to take apart the front hubs and axles. If you search under Sidney in this forum, I think he posted some websites where you can download an electronic version.

The FSMs are not in print anymore for your 4Runners but I see them on ebay all the time. I just got one for my 85 after using an electronic copy for a few years. They don't go cheap though, I think I paid about $70 (but that's for over a thousand pages of irreplacable information). Of course, the new one for my 97 FZJ80 costs over $100 and it's still in print.

That big nut is a 54 mm or a 2 1/8" will work too. Don't need to get an expensive socket. I think that Wabfab sells them pretty cheap.
