repair or replace windshield?

I have a 2007 limited, two weeks old, 300 miles. Today a rock came off a truck and put a dime sized starburst chip in the glass in the center of the windshield. Insurance company will either fix the chip or replace the windshield. Any advice? Will the chip repair make the chip invisible? Is replacing the windshield going to cause problems later on? Thanks

Repairing will be visible if the chip is that big. The usually drill out the chip and fill it with a clear epoxy/sealant. Sometimes the repair will hold up and last the life of the vehicle, other times it's only in the short term and the crack will continue.

Replacing the windshield will be better as long as it's done right. Just remember to leave your window gapped, so it relieves the pressure when you close the doors and try to avoid driving the vehicle for the first 24 hours, so the adhesives can cure.

Most repairs are warranteed so that if they aren't satisfactory they will credit the repair cost to the cost of a new windshield. You must have the repair done quickly - or for sure it will not work (moisture and dirt get in the damaged area). If damage is in driver's vision area - I would not bother with the repair - I'd have it replaced.
