Insurance should not go up with a windshield claim since its not collision related. Ive spoken to multiple companies and they all say that since its not collision it will not go up.
Okay, lets assume with a given insurance company(s) a glass claim will not raise your rates because of that claim.
It most definitely goes on your claim history. Which ultimately affects your rates sooner or later. Every interaction you have with an insurance company hits your CLUE file. Even if a dollar is not paid out.
How did I find out about this? Six years ago we had a hail storm. I have a 3 ply shingle roof that is considered one of the most hail damage resistant roofing systems there are outside of concrete tiles and the new sandwiched metal technology (when you live in Colorado these are things you unfortunately become well versed in).
I called my insurer at the time (Allstate) and asked them just to have somebody come out and take a look at it. Think everything is fine, but lets be safe.
He said there are some dents in the framing of your sunlights and vent stacks but roof looks good.
Okay, cool. Not filing a a claim for that.
Two years ago I switched over to State Farm because I could save about $900 a year on all my vehicles and house combined. They looked everything up and told me there is going to be a surcharge because I have a recent hail inquiry. No claim, just an inquiry. They ALL do this.
Here is a great link that explains CLUE. Read it carefully, especially the part about not even filing a claim can affect your rates. It's sort of like a FICO. Hard inquiries on your credit report drop your FICO.
A lot of people don't know about this. I hope a few can learn from it:
