Replacing front cross member under the radiator

Anyone ever replaced this? It's the one the has the 2 tow hooks attached to it, it a very slim piece. I've got some rust one it and was thinking about replacing it if the rust was deep. Was just wondering if anyone else has replaced it.

That crossmember is rusted very badly on mine. But you'd have to weld in a new steel bar to replace it with. You'd have to be handy with metal work.

My entire chassis is going to be sprayed with undercoating this summer to hopefully slow down the rust. Hit it with sandpaper or a wire brush real good, then coat it with something.

I will also be wire wheeling, and recoating it very very soon just to slow the rust down some.

Also just realized that'd I'd probably have to buy a whole frame assemble just for one part. Haha. Just going to coat it and possible reinforce it.

I'm having this cross member replaced at some point. I'll probably replace it myself. #4 is the correct part. does anyone know the part number and where to buy it?

You're better off just building a new one out of HSS. If you have the skills and equipment necessary to replace a structural piece of your frame, you can probably fabricate any of the required mounting points and tow hooks.

Mine is rusty too. I am planning to wire wheel it, spray rust converter on it then POR 15.

I had to replace that part on my '03 SR5 about two years ago. Don't remember the part number off hand, but it cost about $260 or so, and since the frame rails where it attaches were starting to rust through, I took it to a body frame shop. They cut out all the bad metal, welded in new, and then welded the new cross member in place for $250. that cross member has no specific support function, other than hold the brackets for the trans oil cooler lines, hold the front of the skid plate in place, and a place to mount the hold down hooks.

have you had the chance go get around to it? i'm working on the car slowly and the more i look at it, the more that rusty thing pisses me off. mine is literally about to fall apart due to rust and neglect by prev owners.

Quick picture update, since there was nothing to weld plate steel on to, we built sleeves. They are currently held on with a pair of U-bolts. This coming weekend we will also be installing a pair of 3/8” grade 8 cross bolts through the frame and sleeves. We will be using 3/16” flat stock cut into 2” squares as washers.

Have the same issue with rust in this area and this post made me track down the part #, 5102135071. It's roughly $300.
