Report Assistant Service Mgr to dealership for joyride?

Most likely - this guy seems more reasonable compared to the GM who just focused on shrugging me off with a PR statement. And no, the Parts/service director is not the same as the assistant service manager who drove my vehicle though. So it could be possible it was a rare incident at the dealership which is something I'm willing to accept. Chances are they added a note to my account saying 'CUSTOMER HAS DASH CAM, DO NOT JOYRIDE' for all i know haha. I'm willing to give 'em another chance because it's more closer to me compared to other dealerships in NOVA area. 13 mins and right off the exit compared to 20+ mins on i95 not including traffic

i did set the video private afterwards to show them i'm a reasonable customer who just wanted to be treated fairly rather than being shrugged off like some peasant. i believe in second chances

I also belief in second chances as long as someone is willing to show they're truly remorseful, and in this case it seems someone is stepping up and finally doing the right thing, as stated I very glad to hear this as it keeps my fate in most people are good and do the right thing.

I don't have a dash camera, but if and when I let someone else work on my rides (which is rare, do all my own work when time permits), I always compare the mileage from when I dropped it off, too many miles showing up when I pcik it up and I demand a explanation and it better be good because I know from experience how many miles it takes to do various test drives too insure work done has solved the issues.

UPDATE!

They're going to do the work and will also detail my 4Runner free of charge. They will also supply me with a rental 5th gen 4Runner while the 4R is in the shop. I just need to let them know when I'd be dropping it off. Going to have tint done on Thursday then will be dropping it off probably same day or sometime on Friday.

At least this Parts/Service director knows how to resolve customer issues! Much better response compared to the GM's.

Right....am definitely getting a dashcam now... :plane:

Anonymous4Runner That's weird that the Service Director took care of you and the General Manager did not, considering the GM is above the SD on that scale usually.

But I am glad it all worked out. :)

I know it's pretty weird how it happened like that. I just don't think the GM really understood the severity of the situation. I look forward to meeting with the Director this Thursday to arrange the work and pick up the rental!

I still stand by the one I linked earlier in this thread. It's a great dash camera and easy to install. There are better ones out there but this one does the job for me. My girlfriend has one for her Ford as well

If I could go back into time, I would have set aside free time to learn more about cars where I could have experience before owning a 4Runner. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to take on more technical repairs rather than simple mods where I can replace mechanical parts myself!

I would still consider investing close to $100 on a dash camera though, you just never know what can happen (like my situation haha). It helps with insurance too if you're a safe driver and don't want to get screwed by other party. You just never know. Still glad everything worked out for me though! Anxious to move on and get back to business.

You may also want to let the Director know you have shared your experience from the start here on the largest T4R forum and he stepped up at the right time, the dealership could have lost numerous sales and services just from this forum if he hadn't of done the right thing!!

Dropped off the 4Runner earlier today at the dealership. the GM did not bother seeing me but that's okay ;) :lmao: the parts/service guy was very nice and apologetic. he had me sit down with the lady in charge of customer relations where she arranged the rental vehicle and apologized for the experience i had, etc etc

i did feel like the staff stared at me as soon i pulled into the service garage with the 4Runner...it's almost as if the dealership actually reminded the employees not to go on joyrides and probably showed my video to them as an example :snacker:

Anyways, took some "before pics" of the 4R and the tint i just had done yesterday right outside my dealership prior to dropping it off

can't wait to see the detail afterwards, i'll keep you guys updated :bravo:

just previewed my post...guess it won't work but doesn't matter -

Update x2:

My experience was cringe at best. Customer Relations lady was very apologetic and helped with the process of having work done/getting a rental the first time around. We went over what needed to be done and I thought that was it from there...

but no, I go back to pick up my 4Runner few days later only to realize they did a full detail and 1/4 of the work that was supposed to be performed. They only replaced front sway bars links and driver side boot kit. I made a note of this with CSR and she apologized...I guess it was miscommunication between her and the Parts. dept.

She had me come back whenever I could drop the 4Runner again to have everything else done after confirming in person. I picked it up same day and they still failed to do the work in full. They ended up doing rear sway bars links and that's it. They did not replace passenger boot kit like they said they would.

I decided not to say anything about it because lets be honest here, at this point I already got free work done that would have been covered under warranty if they hadn't tried to upsell me...the only part they did not replace is automatically covered by warranty. I also got a nice detail on top of it and immediately replaced carpet mats with my WeatherTech...

My advice for anyone wanting to go through Priority Toyota Springfield - have them CONFIRM IT IN WRITING.

I set the video public for viewing again. I will be going elsewhere for my services - most likely my primary dealer Charles Barker in Virginia Beach if Toyota Corporate will not be contacted about this incident - I got most of warranty work done free of charge and sooner than later which is all I wanted in the first place. I'll keep a close eye on the passenger boot kit

I'll post some pictures later today when I get a chance

edit: it could be very possible this dealership is disorganized beyond belief. when I picked up both rental vehicles, the amount of gas / mileage were inaccurate. The paperwork for 1st rental showed the rental car at 103xx when actual mileage showed it at 92xx - gas was near empty at the time and paperwork showed it at half tank. Paperwork for 2nd rental was also similar where numbers were inaccurate

I guess the end results shouldn't be very surprising considering the unprofessional experience you had with the dealership at the start and the initial followup!!

I didn't read every last word of this thread but if I get gist the O P got himself into a rift with the dealership's service department. He seemed justified to be upset. Then chose to let them work on his vehicle.
My question to the OP would be: Are you nuts? I have a hard time believing that anyone allow a shop that bullied and threatened allowed that same shop to work on their vehicle. That's like abusing your food server at a restaurant and then being stupid enough to eat the the soup...
OP, I hope they didn't work on your suspension or brakes. LOL

LOL. OP just wanted some freebies. Who could blame him?

A good reason to never use a Toyota Dealers Service Dept. Mine has never been back to my Dealer for anything.
am sure there are some good ones, but i have read nothing in the forum but people having problems with them doing work they are paying them to do or being turned down on warranty items.

Thanks for your insightful post.

The issue was me going with a new dealership outside of Virginia Beach here in Virginia. I recently moved so I was hoping to find a new dealership to service my 4Runner here in Northern VA. I have gone through 3 dealerships so far here in NOVA since July and I'm not impressed with any of them. I'm surprised with my latest experience with Priority - it is a big time brand back home where I have a good amount of friends that have their cars serviced through Priority or Charles Barker. So I figured it'd be the same here in Northern VA...guess not. Like I mentioned, I'm going back to Charles Barker for service now from on and will make trips if necessary.

It sounds like you're an individual that knows how to do all the work on the 4Runner or you take it to smaller shops...either way, that's on you and you alone. If I had enough confidence to perform all kinds of maintenance on my 4Runner, including major work then I would not be here today with this thread. It's my decision to stick to Toyota-certified shops to have work done on my 4Runner. Aside from oil changes, I do not see why I have to go elsewhere to have the 4R serviced other than Toyota.

My dad had a '95 4Runner where he's had it serviced at Charles Barker up to the time he got rid of the 4R...the 4Runner ran like a true beast and Charles Barker never failed us for work that was done on-site. That is the reason why we have stuck with Charles Barker for 15+ years....
