Reputable shop in San Diego for a body lift?

I'm new to San Diego and recently picked up an 02 T4R 2WD. I ordered a 4Crawler 2" body lift, Sonoran Steel basic lift kit, and wheels and would like to know what reputable shop in the area can install them for me. I have already contacted The Truckshop (who has done maintenance work on my rig upon purchasing it) but the owner seems to be unfamiliar with installing a body lift. I also contacted SD Trux and the owner pretty much had the same response. I'd like to deal with a shop that knows exactly how to install the body lift, without running issues (knowing how to adjust the front bumper properly, etc.) I saw the other thread, but it seems everyone recommends installing it themselves... I'd like to, but I don't have the time, tools, place, or friends in SD lol. Any help or info is greatly appreciated!

2in is pretty big for a body lift. Did James over at the truck shop have a place in mind for you? I would normally say ask him on something like that. I'm sure it can be done at home BUT it is allot more work than my half inch I put in myself.

Why don't you call the guys at ORW in Temecula/Murrietta and see what they have to say on the matter. If anything I'm sure they might know a place that do this type of stuff.

2" body lift is what was recommended by Sonoran Steel in conjunction with their 3" suspension lift to clear 35" tires. It never occurred to me to ask James about another shop who would be qualified to work on my 4Runner.. that just seems awkward since they're 4R specialists :tape: Ideally, I'd like to bring it to someone who is a 4R specialist, who has experience with this before, and who can install the body lift and suspension lift in one day, rather than separate places on different days. In the event that something goes wrong, I wouldn't have to deal with the finger pointing. I'll give ORW a call and see if they can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

I don't really understand this. I'm pretty sure James @ SD Truck Shop (Link ---> The Truck Shop) - his guys would know how to install a 2" body lift.

I have never installed one but I think it is pretty easy -- at least based on the threads I have seen.

Did you go down there and show them the parts and explain what you wanted? Sometimes a phone conversation isnt' quite the same.

I've been going there for years and have never heard them say "we don't do that" in fact if it can be done they do it. Build trucks, swap engines, fabrications, diesel work, install their own lift kits, install Sonor Steel lift kits, build sliders, install other shops sliders, I mean they do everything.

They installed my SS 1.2A kit.

Next time someone is the at James shop snap a picture of his 2nd Gen for everyone to see. It is the one that is Camo, Chopped, Bobbed, and full long travel on it. The thing is nuts! I think it has 35 or 37's on it. It was sweet!

In all honesty it sounds like he is picking and choosing jobs right now. I spent much of the week of 16-20 there at his shop. He was slammed. His guys were going pretty much non stop and the phone didn't stop ringing when I was there. I know my friends job was a major PITA for him even though he didn't say it but they worked on it for three day before he would let it roll out his shop. So I'm guessing it is more he has to choose what is the best for him right now for work and this is something he is passing on. I know he can do it. It is just a matter for time and what else is coming in right now that he can take on. Know what I mean.

I too, didn't understand this. Based on the installation instructions on the 4Crawler site, it seems like a pretty straight forward process. I admit, I was a little disappointed when he told me that he "installs suspension lifts every day.." but he pretty much "never installs body lifts". I really want to give them my business as I have had a good experience with them, but I don't want to have them install something that they themselves express that they're not familiar with... for my peace of mind. I didn't show them the parts, as they're still in transit; but unless a body lift for a T4R can be accomplished in more than 1 way, there really is no point in showing them a myriad of spacers and bolts. Perhaps they're picking and choosing their jobs like ol Blue mentioned? I'm not exactly sure? But, if they were able to help me, this thread wouldn't exist.

did they install your body lift, or any body lift that you know of? was the price fair? were you pleased with the results? Unfortunately, I don't need an alignment or a clutch job at this time.
 
Yeah I don't know man. Maybe they don't often do them ...?

If you spoke on the phone only I suggest you go down there. They may be busy but they have plenty of slow days and James always seems happy to make money. The whole no job is too small thing.
 
They very well could be picking and choosing. I know James has refused to install a certain part on a buddy of mine's 4runner. He said he's seen too many problems with them so he just won't even touch them. Either way, that doesn't help you now.

You can try contacting Aloha Automotive up in San Marcos. I haven't personally used them, but they were recommended to me for their supposed expertise in Toyota's, and they have good reviews on Yelp. Wouldn't hurt to ask if they install body lifts.

Also, just curious, when are you going to 35s? I could definitely be wrong, but I think there will still be some cutting/pounding required to clear 35s, even with a 2" body lift. Did you plan on having a shop do that as well? If the end goal is just to clear 35s, maybe give James a call back and see what he would do for you to clear the 35s. He might be able get you set up without having to use a 2" body lift, and you could just return it. Personally, I'd try to get away with using the least amount of body lift possible, but that's just me.
 
no offense to the OP but 35s on a 2WD is just plain lame.

There is no need for 35s anyways with these trucks ESPECIALLY on a 2WD.

I ran 31.5s for 8+ years and only recently switched to 33s. My 33s rub plenty, so much so that 35s would in my opinion be a bad choice for a mall crawler.
 
Other than SD Truck shop, any other shops people recommend in the south San Diego area. Need something closer for specific problem I have (no tow truck). expired plates.
