Rhino Rack on TRD

So I wasn't sure I wanted the gobi or baja for a number of reasons.

1st off, everyone and there mother has them.

2nd, both are HEAVY and since I use mine as a daily driver, why not find something lighter?

3rd, I don't use the top as much as others. A shovel, hijack, and a set of TREDs (which currently are on kickstarter for 50% off!!!!).. Maybe one day I'll stick a tent up there....maybe (my wife hates camping. If there's not a hotel nearby at the end of the day, we aren't going in that direction :der.

Anyways, here is it. Installation was pretty easy and it fits like a glove. Aluminum means light weight, quality product that should last a long time.

I searched and could not find another 4Runnner with it... Anyone else have one installed?

The cost on their website is more than authorized dealers. They want you to buy from them. I got mine from rackoutfitters.com out of austin, texas with free shipping.

It's aussie made, so it's not cheap. $629 for the rack and another $170 for the SX clamps to attach to your rails.

It's the rating of the original rails which is 300 lbs dynamic or 600 static if I recall (less the weight of the rack)

That's another reason why I chose it. There seems to be plenty of accessories. I'm surprised I couldn't find another 4runner with it.

Tires are the stocks on the TRD. Once they are ready to be replaced, I'll probably go with 285's.

You might want to look at the front runner racks as they are at the same price point and have a ton of accessories. I'm guessing it also sits lower.

Rhino Rack is good stuff that doesn't get the love it deserves is a market dominated by Yakima and Thule. And, if I recall, Rack Outfitters is likely the cheapest place you'll find any of their stuff due to pricing restrictions.

PS - I just painted my roof rack black. It looks better.

#2. It doesn't sit lower (I actually think it sits a little higher). I believe the frontrunner sits 5.1 inches from roof. The Rhino is at 4.5 (maybe someone can verify that).

#3. Weighs more and costs more. 50lbs for the rhino compared to 80lbs from frontrunner. And cost is $927 for the frontrunner compared to $799 for the rhino (rack and rail mounts).

#1. Some may think it's looks better and may not want to have to paint their existing rails black for a cohesive look. To each their own.

#2. That's surprising that the rhino is lower. Possibly the front runner needs a little extra clearance for the table to slide under.

#3. The rhino rack, cross bars and OEM rails only weigh 50lbs?

I would still consider that the pricing is in the same ball park.

#4. The front runner is available in 3 lengths and can be upgraded if needed.

My front runner sits at 5.5“ so it is taller. Very surprising to see something slimmer than the front runner.

I would have seriously considered the rhino if I had known about it. My front runner is longer than the standard 4runner version though and I paid $998.00 shipped. Really happy so far but I haven't had it for that long. It would be interesting to complain both racks side by side. Looks great on your rig.

The rack itself is 43lbs, and the mounts might a few pounds each.

Rhino comes in at 60 inches long compared to 61. I think the weight comes in with those rails.

My mistake on the height of the frontrunner. I think it's higher, but not sure if it's more than 5 inches from roofline...someone else can verify if they have one.

Yes, thought about that too. Not sure how much the factory rails weigh.

The factory roof rails don't weigh much but they do flex! This is why almost all roof racks replace the factory rails.
