Ring and pinion break in

The fact is, just driving a vehicle normally, the gears will almost always be just fine. But I did replace many gear sets from people that bought their new vehicle, and then immediately placed a heavy load on the vehicle. There is a valid concern for longevity from new gear sets, placed under heavy load.

I've been involved in Professional Racing, for many years. This weekend I'll again be inspecting the ring and pinion in our extreme-use rear end. If I find any signs of excess wear, yet another rear end with the ring and pinion already set up and run in under load, will go into the chassis.

like the OP stated, if you just drive it you will burn the oil up in them.

its why when you buy a new vehcile the deal should tell you to bring it in in 1000 miles and let them do a service on it, they should drain and fill the diffs/transaxle, and oil at the minimum.

Show me a single manufacturer recommended maintenance schedule that includes replacing the gear oil at 1000 miles.
