Risks of 285/75/17 on Stock TRD Pro Rim?

I put 285/70 KO2s on my 19 TRDP with SPCs and stock wheels. Zero rub even with mudflaps on. Even when off-roading it there’s no rub. I have SPC arms and eibach front springs with a small shim 1/4” spacer on top of the strut mount. I wonder if your shop setup your SPCs wrong?

Since your setup is virtually identical to mine, that may be a distinct possibility.
I did move the LCA forward with the cams, before I took it in for the alignment. They did comment on the adjustment i did, but seemed OK with it at the time. They did not move the cams, only played with the SPC adjustments.
The truck has 4.3* DS and 4.2* PS and drives like a dream, straight and steady.

No mud flap, BMC, rear of the fender well plastics trimmed (front has plenty of room) and it is still close to the pinch weld. It does not rub, except at full lock in reverse on the plastic bottom edge of the fender lip. Maybe I'm just worrying too much...

I've been told that it's not wise to run a 285 tire on the stock TRD Pro rim, as they recommend a rim with min of 7.5". Obviously that isn't the case for the stock Pro Rims. I know there are replicas of the Pro rims made by FX that are 7.5 or 8", but I'm really hoping to do these on the stock rims, and I know a fair amount of you run them.

I've read the posts about them, but I'd like to have some more detailed information if that's possible.

For instance if I air down, should I be staying above a certain PSI to insure the tire doesn't come off the rim? Is that even a risk?

Are there any risks involved running them that way? From what I understand the center will wear quicker than the outer sections of the tire, but is that it? Will I have less traction if I have to stop abruptly?

Has anyone put the spare of it back under the 4Runner in the spare section? Fit? Doesn't fit? Modifications needed to make it fit?

I know there's the possibility of rubbing happening, and I'm hoping someone can send the link to the part needed as I can't seem to find it in the search area anymore.

I read something about rubbing on the UCA? Anyone had this issue? Do I need a spacer to run 285?

I'd be running them with the 2" TRD Pro lift if that even makes a difference as far as fitment.

I'm looking at the BFG KO2 tires if that matters.

Thanks!

I'm currently running 285 BFGs on OEM Pro wheels and so are lots of others and they're fine. I've got about 3" of lift in the front and I'm also running SPC UCAs and spidertrax 1.25" spacers. I trimmed the front bumper and pushed the liner forward and did a BMC due to the rubbing, which I believe the spacers caused or at least made worse. Lesson is, you might rub because every truck's setup is different, and if you do, be prepared to trim the bumper/liner and do a BMC. If you want to avoid the possibility of doing any of that, stick with 275.

The middle of the tire wearing faster than the outer tread has more to do with your tire pressure. If that happens your pressure is too high. If the outer tread wears faster than the inner tread, your pressure is too low. BEST way to figure out the correct pressure for your tires is the chalk test. Google it if you don't know what that is.

You shouldn't need to worry about losing a bead. I've aired down to 15-16 psi and have been fine on some pretty intense terrain. I mostly stick to 18-20 psi though as that's what works for my tire/weight setup. My KO2s are load range C so the sidewalls aren't as stiff as load range E. I only have to air down to 18-20 psi depending on my weight to get a softer ride and decent tire bulge. Load range E you have to air down lower for the same ride quality due to the stiffer tire. Load range E at the same pressure as load range C won't bulge as much and will be stiffer but can support more weight. And of course there's the increase in puncture resistance, but I haven't had any problems with load range C and I've put them through the ringer.

And yes the spare will fit in the OEM location. 285 size or about 33" is probably the largest you'll fit under there especially if you have KDSS. It will touch the sway bar but it will fit. I haven't had any problems with mine.

Haha someone bumped this thread from years ago. I'm at a 34" now, but I did go with the FX Pro wheels from FN Wheels.

Haha ya your post was from a while ago. Plenty of other posts in this thread this year prior to me though. Oh nice 34s! Did you have to do anything noteworthy to move up in size? I'm currently on 33s...obviously lol

Haha yeah. I think people trying to get their posts count up so they can start new threads.

I have a full bumper replacement which helps. Obviously body mount chop. Otherwise just hammering in pinch welds and that was about it. Caster moving forward a bit always helps as well.

The wheels are a 0 offset, so not sure what would possibly be needed if that changed.

Hmm ya I might be able to fit 34s but would have to get a tire carrier for the spare most likely. Which are expensive lol
