road debris hits front end, how would you proceed? [PICS]

Driving on the freeway and a huge piece of sheet metal got popped up into the air at 65+ MPH. Did some decent damage to the hood / front end. I can deal with the stuff on the grill and bumper, but not the hood.

Would you plasti dip? Roll on some bedliner in the center of the hood? Shell out the $300+ to have the paint corrected? Do nothing and hope it hails soon and get it replaced then? I hate the way it looks, as I have only had the truck for about 7 months I want to keep it looking nice. Any suggestions / guides would be great.

I had a flying object hit my hood last year. It removed a little paint and created a small/med dent. Insurance covered under my comprehensive for $100, no impact on rates.

Total cost to insurance was like $1100 :thumb3:

My recommendation is to at least contact your insurance and see what they say. I was lucky, I didn't file a claim for six months. Thought I could live with it, I was wrong. Lucky they decided to cover me after that long of a wait (police report would've been useful)

interesting, i would think this would definitely raise rates. i know when i was with esurance i had a 'no claims' discount and even claiming that for a new windshield would have raised them 10% or more.

why did the time frame matter, couldnt you have just said it happened a few days before instead of 6 months previously?

I might've called the day it happened, don't remember now. I just remember it was several months before I officially filled a claim. I vaguely suspected somebody threw something onto the overpass I was going on, but didn't think it had damaged anything until later that day. Told my agent I thought it was fine, called back a couple months later to file a claim.

I would contact your insurance comp. A lot of times stuff like that can be covered under comprehensive. Sometimes you can get them to write you a check and if you wanna plasti dip the insurance check should more than cover that.

Good Luck
