I'm planning to drive from the Northern Virginia area to Colorado Springs for Thanksgiving week (or a little before) this year to visit my daughter. Any recommendations as to route considering possibility of snow?

Just stay on major roads/ i.e. I70. Then hit i25 down to the springs. They don't keep the roads clean out here like they do back east so be ready to drive slow if ya get stuck in snow. Just too much pavement out here with undeveloped areas b/t cities.

Unless you're dead set on going through Denver, I recommend taking the 470 tollway around, especially if it's snowing. They do a good job of keeping the tollway clear.
4WD and look for snow! That is why you you have T4R
Can you plan around the weather? Front range Blizzards, while the can be rather fierce and capable of bringing things to a halt are pretty predicable these days and the exception rather than the norm.
Myself, I be more concerned with the windswept Midwest and opt for a more southern route and come up I-25 from the south. That said one of the worst blizzards I every drove through was in the mid-90s on November 11 ( Veterans Day wedding, easy to remember) from Alburque north on I-25 to Palmer Lake But, the Palmer Divide between Denver and The Springs is more likely, more often worst.
The key that time of year is to watch the weather. When I drove a lot for biz I always used a CB tuned to the trucker channel to monitor things. They know where Smoky is on those long lonel stretches as well.
