Road trip with the wrong car?...

As I prepare to take a solo 13hr drive to STL to see my dad who isn't doing so well, it got me thinking, this will be the first road trip in the T4R but man have I been on some drives that i probably shouldn't. Like when I moved to WV from south Chicago burbs I flew to wv bringing pretty much all my clothes but I went back a few months later and drove my 1990 Escort back with whatever else I could fit in it out of my parents house. It had been sitting for like 3 months and didn't run when I left it. I had did a basic tune up and when i got done it just wouldn't start...no matter what i did. Found out I broke the shaft on the dist...yeah very uncommon but I beat the piss out of this little car lol.

Well my dad had it fixed and it ran good so i figured it was ok to drive. As soon as we hit the mountains on the PA turnpike it started misfiring bad! It was already dark and being late November it was getting cold. So i just dealt with it....4th gear most of the way and I think I hit 70mph coming down the mountains lol. We limped it home and the 8hr drive took like 11 hours and once I had a chance to have it checked out I found out the plugs were shot from misfiring for 400 miles, the shop that fixed the dist had replaced the wires which were new, with some low rent ones from napa and they were pretty shot and bleeding off electricity like crazy. Also found both ball joints were bad, both axle boots were torn and one joint was pretty done. Control arm bushings were pretty bad and I had a couple leaking shocks lol. In other words this car should have not made the trip.

But it got me thinking, anyone else made a road trip in a vehicle that really had no business going so far....but it soldiered on and made it like a champ anyway?
