Hello all, driving down the NJ Turnpike and a rock decides to flip up and smash into my windshield. Luckily, the glass did what it was supposed to and nobody got hurt. So, is it worth spending the extra $$$ for OEM or is aftermarket just as good? I have gotten quotes on a Pilkington windshield. Thanks!

i dont know if this is the same for others but i have a cheap windshield that a dodge dealer put in my truck before i got it and i get glare from headlights at night. i see 2 sets of headlights. so i would do research on windshields

As far as I know, Toyota used thicker glass to reduce wind noise on the '06+ 4Runners. I don't know how that compares to aftermarket brands but it may be a good time to upgrade. (I do notice difference in wind noise between my 4Runner and my old 2003 4Runner.)

Find an aftermarket installer that installs ppg or pilkington. They are both great windshields and have great optics. I payed about $145 for my tacoma.

I paid 211 for an aftermarket windshield that is much quieter. Not sure of the bran, sorry.

Any idea if this would work on an 04? I have a small chip in the 04 I just bought.

Toyota does NOT make glass..never has...They use several glass manufacturers.

I can buy a new windshield from a local glass company. Their carry mainly PPG.

Or I can go to the local Toyota Dealer and...they'll call the local glass company and have them do..and then charge me $200 MORE. There isn't a dealer I know of that ever stocks glass. They ALL farm it out. There's one local glass dealer (Portland Glass) that had contracts with most of the dealers in this area.

Thanks for your help! Went with Pilkington and so far it fits well. Is it true that the aftermarket glass are OEM rejects? Somebody from a repair shop told me this rumor.
