Rock/paint chip

Not sure how I got the chip but because it's located on the back passenger door, must of either been from a another door that dinged it or someone threw something at it . I was wondering if anyone has had a smiliar problem where they used Dr.Colorchip to fix this? The dent is small probably a little bit bigger than a grain of rice but it definitely catches your eyes when look at that door. It is dented in and a little paint chip to the left of the dent aswell. Will anything work or would I have to bring it in to a shop? TIA.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of Dr. Colorchip. Used it on at least 10 scratches/chips around my rig a few weeks ago and it worked great. Not as good as a body shop fix of course but I was very happy with it and it's easy to use.

Of course the dent is a different story, not sure how bad it will show after the chip is repaired. It looks like it is right under the door handle? If so you could potentially remove the door trim and push it out from the inside...maybe.

you'll definitely still see the dent in the light, but DR colorchip works really well as far as making the paint blemish disappear

and you're not pushing out that dent, you'll need a bodyshop to repair that

(don't use the factory pen, it sucks, DR colorchip is way better)

I bought a bottle of touch up paint from the dealer for mine for the same reason, but have not used it on the chip yet. I figured getting the touch up from the dealer would be the best color match.

the applicator from the dealership is worthless unless you want to do a bunch of sanding, DR colorchip wipes on smooth

also, on mag grey at least the color doesn't even match that great with the pen from the dealership

The PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) guys are amazing. I’m not sure from the pics, but if that dent is on a seam/crease it’ll be more difficult to make it totally disappear. I’d still call your local PDR guy. If you aren’t sure who to call, your local dealerships will very likely have a guy they use. I’d start with the dent and then try to touch up with Dr. Colorchip or other system. If you still aren’t happy, you can take it to a body shop but that will cost more and you’ll probably lose your factory paint on that door. Good luck!

The stuff from the dealer will not improve the look of your "dent". Dr Color Chip works as advertised. Watch a few videos. It will not take out a dent though. I had '12 Inferno Orange SS Camaro and was swatting a wasp on the cord from a fluorescent fixture. Of course the cord swung up and hit the tubes which both blew up shattering debris all over my cars roof. When I stopped crying I bought and tried Dr Color Chip.It took a few applications but when I finished,even I couldnt see where the carnage took place. Good stuff.
By the way that doesnt look like a rock ding.Maybe a door?

find someone that does paintless dent repair in your area and dr. color chip it after. That is your best option 100%

Yes! It made me even more to see that the dent is perfectly inline with the seam too, how unlucky am I! So, I did call a shop and sent over a few phone pictures and the guy quoted me 125 for dent and touch up; said it won't be perfect but it'll look way better than that. I have to bring it in to for him to physically see it still, probably Monday. I'll still look around for more shops but I did order the Dr.Colorchip and will go that route aswell. Can I ask how long you waited between applications? My only frustration with Dr. Colorchip has been that I haven’t been able to ever get the repair level with the surrounding paint. I always seem to wipe a 2nd layer right out of the chip. Otherwise I like and use the product. Are you using the squeegee or just your thumb? Thanks!

I forget how long I waited.I did watch as many videos As I could b/4 I started. Properly prepping the surface and really cleaning all the old wax off the place being coated seems to help with the coats staying in the chip.
I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

How does PDR work?

The PDR guys have special tools that allow them to massage dents out. They need to be able to get access to the dent from the inside but the 4 or 5 times I’ve used them they’ve had no trouble. And the dents have been impossible to find when they were done. I think they rely on access and leverage and, of course, proper tools and experience. Somebody may have a better explanation but this has been my experience.

PDR is super awesome for dent repairs. Depending where it is, they can use the tool in the side windows tracks or they can potentially get under the fender. I had one on my minivan in the third row on the side panels and one guy removed the tail light and stuck a tool in the hole to massage the dent back out.

My word of caution is to check with the person to see if they need to drill a hole in the body panel to get access to the dent.

The dent on my car is located on the back passenger door with the chip/dent perfectly aligning with the seam pattern. You will definitely see it whenever you reach for that door....
