Roman's Runner Build/Progress Thread

Did some things today, again with the help of suppra87. Thrush welded muffler, and new OEM LBJs. The two in there were aftermarket, one of them unknown age.

Hit it with some high-temp paint to deter rust.

Here is a short compilation of the exhaust noises, mostly from the cab.

Dealer effed up the price but honored it.

A friend of mine got a slightly used Caddy STS for $27,000 instead of $37,000. The dealer messed up & they honored it. They didn't discover the mistake until after all of the paperwork was signed. LOL Lucky Bastid!

Frame bath time! Lots of pebbles, dirt and rust flakes came out. Jacked the front up, ran (lots of) water through the frame, jet-sprayed the whole exterior and axle and cross-members. Jacked the rear up, sprayed water into the rear of the frame until the water ran clear up front for about a minute or so. Ditto on the other side. Another exterior bath. The frame is now the cleanest part of the truck.

suppra87 and I did it again.

On the docket today: OME 906 rear coils, Monroe Quickstrut (factory-style replacement 99 height to match passenger side installed in Jan), Napa rear strut (I know it's not a Billie, but it was $20, and this was to match the brand new Napa strut already installed), and trans cooler.

The 906s are actually a bit shorter than the factory springs, but progressive so sag much less with weight, hence, lift. One spring is slightly taller than the other, so it goes in the driver side.

Here are before and after ground to fender measurements. 265/70/16 tires. Keep in mind the before measurements were taken with a 1.5" spacer on the driver rear coil. Rear went up about 3/4" and sits perfectly level. The new driver assembly brought that corner up 1/4" and now the front only leans toward the driver side 1/4". By Yota standards, that's damn level. All measurements taken with a full tank and empty cargo area.

Touched up the frame and exhaust tip with high temp epoxy paint.

Taco whip last week. Forgot to snap a pic of the antenna, but you know what it looks like.

How it sits now. Hard to see the lift, but the slight rake is there, which I love.

The ride is firmer (not to be confused with harsher). On the highway you can definitely feel the undulations more, but harsher bumps are soaked up nicely. I haven't tried particularly rough road yet, but I imagine it will be more noticeable. Jury is still out on that one. Now to get rid of the 99 rear springs and spacers...

Congrats on the new lift! I think the only weak point you'll see is the Monroe's from Napa. I went through a few of them. They blow easily if you work them hard offroad. But its still a decent shock. Its very apparent when they're blown.

I installed it only because there was a new one already in on one side. And $20. When these go I'll for sure go with better alternatives.

Finally got rid of the aftermarket head unit.

Anyone want the other unit? It's a Kenwood. No clue on the model. No BT or aux in. Straight AM/FM/CD, tilting and removable screen plate. Free, just pay shipping.

After a Fluid Film frame bath and diff breather extension, took her to Rausch Creek with suppra87 and JRZEE2000TR4LTD and a few Jeep buddies. It went great. Handled the trails fabulously.

RPS,
Do you have any after pictures of the windshield seal repair?
What did you have to do to correct this issue with the corrosion at the top of the windshield?
I have the same issue on mine and need to take some action.
Thanks and your truck looks really nice with the dipped trim.

I haven't actually done anything about it. I'm afraid what it's going to cost. By the time it becomes a big enough problem that water starts leaking in, I may very well get rid of it. Or pick up a new one and turn this into a trail-only rig.

I offered up some driveway space to a buddy of mine who just bought his 4Runner. Brought it over last night; I made some room for him.

Apparently mine and his don't get along. I woke up this morning to this.

Either his sabotaged mine or mine is protesting the bed getting smaller.

Did some research here, read some DIY threads, watched some videos, and decided on a Carquest reman from Advance with a lifetime warranty. $90 after core return and Black Friday discount.

I did the whole procedure from the top with the battery removed. Simple job.
