Thule Rack

Make sure you can get into your garage with that basket rack on top of the 4Runner rack. It wouldn't fit in my garage with less than a 7'-0" clearance below the door. I have a Baja Rack flat utility rack that just barely clears, after I lifted the vehicle 2" to 3". It's lower than the OEM rack by an inch maybe. I don't see a big advantage to the basket style over a flat rack. You still have to tie things down. And on a flat rack, I can haul lumber, plywood and larger stuff like canoes with ease. :plane:

I had a Yakima MegaWarrior with Extension. Similar to the Thule I think. Great basket.
My needs changed a little, mostly because of a RTT, so I sold it and put a flat rack on.
If it wasn't for the RTT, I'd still have the basket.

Do you have the factory crossbars?

On my 4th gen 4runner I had the 4x4 innovations mounts and a Rola Basket.

Turns out if you flip the mounts they work on the 5th gen. Since I already owned the basket and the mounts I put them on my 5th gen.

I didn't have the factory crossbars so this was the best solution for me. The Rola Rack is nice, I have had it for several years now and it's been on 2 4runners. I got it on Amazon for $100. Right now it looks like the price is a lot higher.

I too have the 4x4 innovations mounts and a Rola Basket. Very sturdy and works well for me.

Good looking rig, I do have the factory cross bars. I will check out the rack on Amazon.

What do you plan on putting in the basket that wouldn't fit in the back area?

Hi-Lift jack, lawn chairs, snow shoes (I am in CO). Stuff I don't want bouncing around in the back. You may find that that you don't need/want a rack.

What tires are you running? 4 Wheel Parts is leveling it for me next week, so tires/wheels will be next upgrade.

4 wheel parts in the Springs did mine. Bilstein 5100's set at 2.5" up front with stock springs, 5100's in back with 1.5" spacer. Rides much better. Tires are BFG KO2's stock size 265/70 17

I have used the the Thule and it works fine. I don’t think there would be much of a difference between it and one like the Rola so go for which ever is the most pocket book friendly. They can be handy. Like someone else mentioned earlier, I have moved on from it. I now have a Prinsu rack on my 4runner but I have been considering mounting the Thule basket on my Tigermoth for extra storage.

Everything else. Don't mind the gun cases. I know they're bad ju-ju in your part of the country. :whipping2

Did you change the UCAs? Thinking of going with the same set up.

Both pics posted indicate a need of a full size rack. Why invest $500 towards something that does half the job? Just save up and buy what you need?

(Only using my own logic of why I went with a full rack). I also carry passengers too.
