Roof Rack Choice

I have been reading a lot about the various roof racks and have narrowed it down to 2 smaller racks because I don't want/need a full length.

Prinsu 3/4

or

BajaRack Standard Basket Rack

They are so different it is almost apples to oranges, in that one has side rails and is steel while the other doesn't and is aluminum. I like the modular design of the Prinsu and the fact that in sits low and looks like it will catch a lot less wind. However, I like the more raised traditional look of the Baja as well. Also Prinsu is $200 cheaper.

Anyone have thoughts or insight on which is better or which has less wind noise?

I previously had a Baja standard basket rack before I got my Prinsu and I don't regret my switch at all...

The downside with the Baja, Gobi, etc. is that mounting things requires a special mount that clamps to the bars on the rack, or if you're handy you can fab something; where as Prinsu, FrontRunner, Etc. are modular and use slotted track where you can mount just about anything with only basic hardware found at any hardware store.

I also like the fact that Prinsu, Frontrunner, etc. use aluminum vs. steel, so it's lighter & doesn't rust.

I know that you only mentioned prinsu and baja, but as someone said earlier, I like the fact that with front runner, you can add or change out the bolt/nuts, with standard 8mm bolts/nuts...

Living in Hawaii, I have almost converted all nuts and bolts to stainless..
Also, I do have a couple of the accessories that front runner sells... not sure now easy those would be able to install into a prinsu... (i.e. Water tanks, boxes, ladder supports)

I have the K9 rack- aluminium - can bolt on pretty much any thing as it has slots for bolt heads running longitudinal, as well as the 3" slats also running longitudinal, so you can use straps too. Comes in various sizes. I think Equipt might be offer free shipping too.

I have 200lbs of tent up there and its solid. Very happy with this product in terms of fit and finish, strength and available modular accessories.

I really like my Baja rack, but the ability of the frontrunner sometime makes me question my decision. I think mine looks better, but as it goes for function, I cannot say I would do it all over again.
