Hello everyone,
I'm sure someone on here has put a Thule roof rack on a 2018 4runner with a moonroof. Which bars did you use, square or Aerobars? Did you need a fairing? How was wind noise? I want to put a Thule cargo box on it. What the largest one that will fit and not interfere with the moonroof and still be able lift the back gate all the way up? Any other helpful hints on this? It will be close to a $1000 dollars for the rack and box and it will likely last the life of the vehicle so I want to get it right the first time. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff
First off, welcome! Secondly, this forum is specific for 3rd gen 4Runners. Your 2018 is a 5th gen. You may want to check for info on that forum, as well.
From post #7 (mine) on the previous page:
"I have a Thule Tracker II rack on mine. The cleats for the risers mount very securely to the factory rails and the risers and bars clip on or off in seconds. Here in Wisconsin I leave the bars off in winter when not in use to avoid corrosion. During spring, summer and fall they are always mounted up (and locked on with Thule lock cylinders) with my kayak and canoe saddles. I also have a Thule roof box that rides nicely up there. They handle a heavier load than the factory bars and the accessories swap easily onto my 87 VW Westy or my wife’s 05 Outback. I picked them up on craigslist for a decent price and could sell any or all for what I’ve paid for them."
There is plenty of room for the moon roof to tilt without interference from racks or kayak/canoe/roof box. I have no fairing and hear no noise, although I do have Goodyear Duratracs which sing on the pavement. I have a Thule Evolution 1200 roof box that I use occasionally, and it fits on the rack with a canoe or kayak also. Without a boat atop the biggest of roof boxes would likely fit.
The Thule Tracker II feet have been updated to The Thule Podium foot pack. I have the old fashioned rectangular bars, but I would see no reason not to select the aero bars.
