not many options going right now- i just ordered a bajarack through a group buy recently- do your research before you choose your rack- i try to support company's that i respect their business practices
i had a whitson metal works rack on order, which was my 1st choice, but he was shut down due to accusations that he stole vehicle specific 'designs' on the 4runners
if you're buying other than GOBI, pick one up sonner than later

Although I have never seen them these both seem pretty modular. I really like the look of the Prinsu myself.
On the basket side the G company, if you are so inclined, and Bajarack are the current full rack options I am aware of. If you can find a WMW second hand that would be my first choice. Gorgeous work and low profile. I found a used Bajarack locally and picked it up. They only offer baskets for 4th gen. Solid build. It does sit up higher than I feel is necessary but then again I don't have a sunroof or anything underneath that would demand the extra clearance. It would be nice if it followed the roof line contours a little better like some other choices but that is part of the price point difference between this and the other guys. Function wise it does the job and is a nice looking addition.

Im leaning towards a BajaRack just wish the legs were lower. About 1-1.5" closer to roof. Wonder if they can do that for me??
It's almost depressing the Gobi looks the best out of all of the choices and has the removable sunroof plate. Screw Gobi and their lawsuit against Whitson. I will never purchase anything from Gobi for this reason alone......even though their ladder is really nice as well....:mmph:

Maverick...this may seem like a silly question, but what do you want to carry on your roof rack? Knowing this information will help us pass on insights.
I carry, skis/snowboards, bikes, and occasionally a rocket box. I have no need for any of the racks mentioned in this post. For my application and use Yakima (and Thule) racks offer the best solution. IMO....

It's a solid question. It would be the first time I'd have actual cargo capacity up top. I figure general cargo, camping and such. A jack. About all. I'm short an OEM end cover and figured this is the time to consider if I should go rack, or just buy a damn cover.

Unfortunately, the Gobi rack does seem to be worth the money. I've been researching for a while, and it seems like it's the best. Sucks their patent lawyers were a little aggressive, but it's not enough to stop me from buying a good, well engineered product. I plan on putting a roof tent up there and some gear, so I'm not wanting to pinch pennies there. I want something I can trust. Hopefully I'll pull the trigger in the next week or two.

Just wanted to revive this thread to see if you guys knew of any new roof racks that have come out that bolt directly on to the factory mounts. Been two years, there's gotta have been some development, right?

Prinsu has gotten much more popular since this thread. They've been bought by CBI, which fixed their supply issues (couldn't keep up with demand for a while). I've had one on my 4Runner for about a year now, and love it.
