Rotopax behind Victory bumper

Looking for second, third, fourth and so on opinions.

I have a Victory 4x4 rear bumper with the adventure carriers. I also have a pair of rotopax 2 gallon cans. The cans fit perfectly behind the carriers and rest on the bumper (not suspended at all). There is the tiniest bit of rub between the can and the body.

Here is where I'm looking for opinions.
If I stick some thin rubber in there to stop metal on plastic friction, the only concern I'm left with is gas expanding the can itself. How much should I anticipate these things ballooning? The last thing I want to do is create a bomb behind my hatch, but lord these things fit perfectly.

I wouldn't do it, it sits too close. Even if you put foam or rubber back there there will always be vibration and rattling that will rub on the hatch and scuff the paint. The bumper is independent of the body and moves separately so any type of tire or driveline vibration, normal harmonic, and rattling/movement in the swing arm will just keep contacting the rear hatch. Plus as you said, Rotopax's are notorious for ballooning so you want room for it to expand. Put it on the outside of the tire or on the other swing arm.

I have the 4 gallon rotopax, and they ballon pretty good. I'd say 1/2" easy...

dont do it. If your bumper or tire carrier catches on an obstacle (like driving down a rock formation). it will push that rotopax into your hatch leaving a beauty mark you might not like.

As others have mentioned, if you drive down corrugations, or washboards, you will rub a hole through your rotopax eventually, or rub the paint off your hatch, since your bumper/frame move independently from the body when it flexes.

bummer. sounds like I should mount these like a normal person instead of trying to be fancy. Thanks for the info!

I have the 4 gallon rotopax, and they ballon pretty good. I'd say 1/2" easy...

I think you folks are right, I'll just do the boring mount instead of trying to be extra. Thanks!

If you’re really using your Rotopax frequently for supplemental fuel you will quickly realize they are a pretty horrible solution. Switch to Sceptre cans and never look back.

I'm not entirely sure how useful they are going to be in general. I have to run 91 (preferable 93) but it seems to be easier and easier to get 91 even in the sticks. I have a bottle of torco though just in case
