Hi,
I have an issue with my 4runner, 94 3.0 Manual. When driving it around in the cooler weather, it seems to jerk/jump and struggle a bit between 2000 - 3000 rpm. Its almost as if its misfiring or something, or sort of like that feeling you get when you run out of gas, only not as bad. If you back off the accelerator and re-apply slowly you can 'nurse' it along so it doesnt jerk/jump.
Its 100% got to do with the car/engine being cold and not fully warmed up.
When i leave work and its been out in the cold (anywhere from -5C to -30C) I have to warm it up for a good 10 mins before driving off.
If I leave from home, where the garage is heated (around +20C) I only have to warm it up for a couple mins before its drivable and doesnt do the jerky/jumpy thing. BUT if i drive it straight away without letting it warm up at all, it still does it, but not as bad.
So what could it be? Its just had a tune up, new plugs, leads, rotor and ditributor. As well as air filter and oil filter.
Fuel pump/filter? Would this fix itself after warming up a bit? Could the fuel lines be a little blocked due to the cold weather? Could the fuel filter be blocked? (that was never changed)
Spark Timing? Possible that it still could be the plugs? It did get a little better after the tune up, but had since gone back to its old problems.
Exhaust something, CatCon perhaps? Would this be something that could be 'clogged' when cold but clear itself out after 15 mins operation?
Otherwise the car runs fine, gets about 450kms per tank (65L) from a mix of town and highway (mountain) driving. No rotten egg smell, no 'cotton candy' smell coming from the exhaust. Starts first time, idles fine and isnt rough.
Cant think of anything else?
