Had a fun trip this weekend to nearby Jones lake again. The reservoir was low, so we had fun driving among the tree stumps that are normally under water.

Got stuck on the beach and had a fun time getting it out. I think I'll buy better recovery gear soon, some maxxtracks and a quality tow strap seem in order.

Took the rig into the shop to get some U-joints done and get the rig prepped for hunting....

Looks like I most likely have a pinion bearing gone, my leaky axle housing and low diff fluids likely caused it....

Managed to score a new e-locker housing at a generic parts yard. However I am looking at a rebuild on the 3rd member...

Here in British Columbia, 3rd gen 4runners are all snapped up by greedy import scrap yards that basically price used parts somewhere between 3rd party aftermarket and new OEM.

So we don't have the option of grabbing a cheap 3rd member from the local wrecker for the price of a 42inch flatscreen.

We do part out rigs within the BC Toyota 4wd community, but these rear axle parts all have line-ups of people who want them.

So I really REALLY lucked out on the housing, but am gonna have to suffer the cost of rebuilding the 3rd

Gotta say, the bumper looks great.
A couple questions on it too, as I am looking at an ARB or something along the lines
1. Did you need extra lift/suspension to hold it?
2. Did you weld it yourself
3. How much was it total again with the pieces?

1. drove around for quite awhile on stock suspension, when I put in the lift, I looked for springs designed to work with a bumper.

2. lived in an apartment at the time, paid for it to be welded, which ended up being the bulk of the cost. I would definitely just buy a welding machine and attempt it now that I live in a house. (and most likely will for the rear bumper)

3. Plans were like 125 USD, the metal from the plasma cutter was 200 CDN (i just emailed them the plans and picked up a stack of metal)

so.... i've decided to ruin the truck with krylon finally.

some updates to come soon. changed lightbar for a slim morimoto bar, awning, and of course paint.

New changes!

Switched to a slim morimoto light bar... They are pretty cheap, but still a quality brand with good warranty..
The cheap bar i had got condensation and crapped out. I like the slimmer look.
I don't hate chinese bars, but research heavily. I literally bought the cheapest one on ebay that would ship within Canada quickly... Buyer beware. Use amazon, use buyer reviers. Better yet, buy morimoto.

paintjob more or less done, hood is sort of uneven, although im told the krylon evens out.

regardless, next step is painting the side mirrors black (maybe bedlining since they shwack a lot of branches) and repainting the hood with a primer base.

decided to finally take a pic of the rig with my real camera instead of the iphone. hood is gonna get resprayed and then get a blackout in the top center. Rear swingaway bumper coming soon

next on the aesthetic list, paint door handles and side mirrors. cut into roof rack so thin light bar is flush.
