Howdy all,
About 9 months ago I picked up a fairly low mileage (105k) 4th Gen 2005 V8 Sport Edition 4WD Toyota 4Runner and finally got around to working on building out an overland camper conversion a few months ago. I previously had a 2nd Gen 2005 Honda CR-V for about 2 years that I had converted, but the further I ventured off paved roads the more I realized I had the wrong vehicle for my intended purposes...enter the 4th Gen 4Runner. I'll be documenting the build on this thread, as well as on my YouTube channel: Rugged Runner Overland. The long term plan once I've finished building out the interior is to live and travel in the 4Runner full time.
So far I've installed a Sherpa Equipment Co. Princeton roof rack, removed the back seats, and started building a bed/deck with storage underneath where the back seats and foot wells are. I've also had the dreaded sunroof failure where it jammed in the open position, which I fixed myself with a salvaged sunroof assembly...$150 was much better than the $2100 quoted by my local Toyota dealership. After the assembly was installed, I sealed the sunroof with silicone and unplugged the motor, not going through another repair like that and I don't intend to use the sunroof especially with the Sherpa roof rack installed.
