Hey Gang,

I got a 2018 Limited and saw a local add for running boards from an sr5 which i think look a lot better than the original chrome one that comes with the limited. When i try to install them i noticed that the brackets are shorter and do not go all the way up to the body of the truck. Does any one know where i can just get the longer brackets and still use the SR5 running boards?

Similar problem here. Read this: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/246020-running-board-help.html

Pretty sure your problem is the LE has a piece of trim under the doors that SR5 does not. I guess you could remove it. But if you do that, you'll be where I am - with RBs that sit up so high you might as well climb into the truck without them.

The part # in that thread IS for longer brackets ... BUT ... I had a nice parts guy look at them and he told me they fit the chassis boles but will not match up with the holes in my RBs.

My conclusion is that you are stuck with the factory RBs for the LE. I had those chromey ones too, on my 2010 and never did like them. I am likely to go to a fab shop and have longer brackets made. I have to have them for wifey.

If you do choose you use the oem style, they come up for sale in the classifieds, or post a WTB. Obviously, make sure they're off an LE.

Phil,

Thank you so much for the reply. So you're saying that i am stuck having to buy the original Limited chrome RBs and they will butt right up on the original brackets. I would not want to remove that trim from the bottom so i would have to buy the whole set. I was wondering if the brackets will fit the SR5 RBs but still use the limited brackets.

Well, here's what I *think*. LE RBs and their brackets are unique to the LE. Ditto for the SR5 and TE.
With patience, you should be able to get them in the Classifieds.

The brackets may work but may need a need hole drilled possibly for the different running board. I would be interested in buying the SR5 brackets off of you if you do not need them. I want to take the lower trim off my Limited and use my existing Limited running boards.

I guess you're addressing this to me, as norfolk4runner will keep his brackets to sell with his RB s.

I will sell my SR5 brackets, as my RBs are more PITA than useful as in. And I'm not seeing any fix but to have brackets fabbed. I have found a fab shop - so all that remains is to just DO IT.

Retail is $140 / set of 3 -- they can be had for $109/set + shipping on the net. So how does $100 + $15 shipping sound for all 6? I presently have 700 miles on the new 4R.

I am going to look at a set of running boards on a SR5 4runner sometime at the Toyota dealer to make sure my idea will work (board compatibility) and take a measurement. It want to make sure they do not hang down to far with the lower trim removed and look funny. $100 is a little more than I was hoping for but let me think about it

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I just bought the rails for the limited edition with the chrome accents and it fit like a glove. Didn’t have to take off the rocker molding and was able to use the existing holes to mount. The bolts that came with it were a little longer to compensate for the thickness of both brackets.

Having done all that I think the boards are a little to thin to get a good full step on them. It would have been perfect if they stuck out about 1-2 inches outward.

I ended up finding a set for $50. There was running boards on the for sale section for $50 complete. I told him to send me the brackets and hardware and trash the rest of the running board to keep shipping cost down.

Item 11980 here. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/80618-5th-gen-sale-wanted-thread-799.html

Not sure if this is the place to post this but maybe somone out there has the answer. I have a 2008 4runner SR5 and wondering if a set 2017 4runner running boards would fit mine? Not sure if bracket spacing varied. thanks.
