Rust proofing voids warranty?

Hello everyone!

Im helping my cousin about her 2021 4runner limited. My question is: will getting a rust proofing service void warranty? The dealership offered her this service - rustproof of undercarriage and something about paint protection (she didn't take it). There are services in the area where rustproofing is offered (such as rustcheck canada - their website says it won't void warranty) and they're cheaper. I searched around here about voiding warranty but it seems to be mixed. Wondering maybe someone had experience to use rustproofing - especially in canada.

The only way rustproofing will void a warranty is if Toyota can prove the rustproofing compromised a particular component and caused it to become damaged and not work.

The sad part is that a car dealership has to offer rust proofing. A car should come from the factory rust proofed!

Well, it does, but it's more like "rust-resistant" because nothing is completely rust-proof. That term doesn't sit well with me in general.

Metals and factory coatings are actually pretty good today compared to even 15-20 years ago, but honestly, the "rust-proofing" treatment that the dealer offers isn't really all that good for the most part. There are better 3rd party treatments out there.

I'm curious as to what the dealership actually does for rust proofing.

Regardless, hop on the Fluid Film train and do that every year or at least every other.

I wonder if they are talking about the rubberized undercoating stuff such as ziebart that just makes the problem 10x worse. Fluid film every year is the way.

Friend of mine owns a RustCheck / TintMaster shop in the Toronto area with dealer contracts to apply many products actually, their line of RustCheck being one of course. Known Rust control probably does the same. But they don’t put their brand stickers on the door jams when it goes back out. I doubt most dealers dedicate a bay to apply these products it’s all contracted out.

If you drive through rock salt and brine these days it’s worth the effort I think. Your undercarriage will thank you in 5 years.

The dealership Service Manager I talked to in CT recommend undercoating with Fluid Film. He said all of the dealerships trucks (plow trucks, delivery trucks etc.) were under coated with it.
