Rust

Just because our 4-R's are built in 2004 or 2005 does not mean there is no rust. I think Trans-Pacific shipment and sea salt accelerates corrosion. Mine 4-R is 4 month old, I was under it yesterday checking things when I found small rusty spots. All rust is on the frame only, mostly welds but lower supports for rear springs were worst. I sprayed things with rust converter and toped it with black touch up paint. Going intto the winter with exposed oxidised metall here in midwest is asking for trouble. I know that it takes a while for frame to rust trough, but why wait if the fix only few dollars and 30 minutes of your time. Just do not spray exhaust pipes or brakes with anything... I thought I throw my 2 cents, since most of us despise rust...

I like to also spray oil or rust inhibitor in crevices like between body panels etc. Anywhere that water and dirt can accumulate, trap water and cause rust.

What is the product called that you used?
I have a few spots, but they are from scraping while wheeling. I didn't motice any other rust apart from the areas where the paint was damaged while wheeling. Nothing serious on mine. But then again I live in Cali.

Product that I used is called KleanStrip, it converts rust into carbon base primer. Company claims: "Rust Converter

For rust prevention (not removal), I use a product called Fluid Film:
