Got in her from work and noticed the CEL and Stability control lights came on and she started missing terribly... Limped her home from work and straight to Autozone to have codes read. Before they pulled the codes, I knew it was a fuel delivery type of issue, just didnt know exactly what. Autozone pulled the code P0356. It also stated Ignition coil "F" primary/secondary circuit fault, indicating bad coil or electrical issue somewhere.
Once home, I pulled out my handy dandy heat gun and started measuring exhaust temps. I found the Driver side front left cylinder to be nearly 200 degrees cooler than the any other cylinder.
Any thoughts out there? Im standing by waiting for her to cool off before I start sticking my fingers in there.

FOUND IT! Once it cooled down, I went looking for things and found the coil connector clip had become brittle from the heat and broke causing the connector to be loose on the coil. Made a quick fix, fired it up, all CEL lights gone and she runs smooth again.

Measuring exhaust temps was the quickest way to find a dead cylinder on carbureted race motors back in the day.

This thread has inspired me to go out tomorrow and purchase an infrared thermometer w/laser. Not that I need one at the moment, but I've always wanted a good excuse to get one....

I use mine to check lots of things even while im out wheelin. I also use it to check tire temps which lets me know if im running the right tire pressures. Plus for giggles when I run hard I also keep an eye on brake temps and shock temps. (Old school racer and old school car nerd)

Hmm, that's a relatively old way of checking for a dead hole. It a little off the beaten path but it works!

Personally I would have just looked at the ignition coil real quick myself, but I'm used to seeing that DTC with some of our 2GR-FE engines (there is a TSB talking about some years having less than stellar ignition coils and a newer part being available.)
Also Toyota's Secondary Ignition DTCs are very accurate, typically if its not something as obvious as a loose connection or bad connector its a coil most of the time.
