For anyone in the San Diego area looking for a great spot close to town, its hard to top Twin Oaks Valley in San Marcos. This particular spot goes by the name 'Drug Airport' as it apparently used to be a rural dirt strip used to fly drugs in from Mexico...now its just a great wheelin spot!!

Looks like you're gonna need to bring some spraypaint next time to cross out the "jeep only" tags! Lol, it's time to start a turf war at the drug airport.

LOL, I updated the original post to include a pic I forgot to upload on the first go round. FWIW, the Jeep JK I was wheeling with struggled on several occasions and my TE never once missed a beat. ATRAC and a rear locker is pretty much unstoppable!

On the 15 take the exit for Deer Springs. Proceed off the highway and turn onto the street with two gas stations (Closest to highway). There you can fill up for gas lower your tire pressure. Directly across from the first gas station is the entrance I use. There are multiple entrances. Make sure you go with someone that has been there before, or you download an app that tracks your route so you can get out.

PM next time you go, I live 15 minutes away!

i live in san marcos off of the 78 side.

my work life takes me on the 15 southbound pretty much daily... along with family in San Diego.

i'll have to make time for this.

I took the Deer Springs exit off the 15 (there is an Arco and AM/PM) and went west until the stoplight for Twin Oaks Valley road. Took that north to Camino Mayor (I dont think its marked but it is RIGHT after Twin Oaks Crest Dr and after a little bend in the road). There are signs that say private property etc. but I talked to someone who lives literally right next to those signs and they said they just put them up to keep people from shooting back there and they have no problem with off roaders or dirt bikers. This road starts up hill and from here its best to have some google imagery to figure out which road to take. I think my favorite part about this place is that on your way back to SD, you almost HAVE to hit the Stone Brewery for a post wheeling lunch!!
