Savage Off Road Armor?

Hi,
I think this summer once I am done getting my CV and ball joints done, I am going to get some Savage bumpers front and rear. I was thinking ARB at first, but they seemed to jump up in price...then I spotted a pic on here in a thread of these Welcome to Savage Off-Road - 4WD Accessories for 4Runners .

Both front bumper (bull bar style, with shackle mount, weld on mounting plate, and 3 light tabs, upgrade to DOM), and rear bumper (with upgrade to DOM). I think they look stout and functional.

Anyone have these and can speak of their experiences mounting them and use off road?

Their skid plates look legit too, I just cant tell if you have to take them off every oil change or to service tranny. I dont have cash for them at moment, but they look simple and functional too.

Paint, just rattle can these bad boys? Or I thought about asking the Line X dealer how much they would charge to spray these things so Id never have to worry about rust.

And lights, with 3 tabs wondering what are some affordable but potent lights. I have some PIAAs on my Jeep and not too impressed with them for the price. I liked Hella's old school Black Magic kit but they discontinued it and now use 500s for that kit. I dont want to go overboard with cost in lights, but still want some good coverage. Never had HID lights before but they seem to be popular and Hella has some 4" ones that are like $120 each...not sure if they are worth it over getting the large Hella ralley lights...

Just checking, Im daydreaming about spending money I dont have on these Savage bumpers haha...

I'm running Savage bumpers, front and rear along with sliders. I rattle canned them with bed liner, which is holding up quite nicely. Unfortunately, I haven't really put them to use yet, but they are an excellent buy IMO.

Meh ... I would just rattle can it the color of your choice vs powder coating it ... rattle can jobs are much easier to patch up after scratching it up on the trail

My front was glossy black originally and I like the look better than bed liner, but all the scratches and repainting it after every off-road trip caused different layers in paint to show where it was scratched. I have herculiner roll on bed liner on my front bumper now, seems to hold up well and hides the scratches, but it fades pretty quickly even if I armor all it. If I could do it again, I'd go for straight up rhino lined.

I have no idea what Hanson does to paint their bumpers, but I demolished a Lexus with it and only got paint transfer from their car onto the bumper...didnt even take the paint or chip the paint off the bumper!

That ARB looks nice...I dont have a BL though...and I skimmed your thread, sort of same scenario, Im in finals for grad school and then afterwards I have camps I have to work out of state, intern to start here in LA working weekdays and weekends, etc....whatever solution is simple and affordable is what Im probably going to end up doing, those Savage bumpers are not expensive at all and I can get front and rear for decent price. Someone on here says that they got a new ARB for $749 but not sure hold old thread was, Im finding them at $829. My mechanic many times will get me parts at his cost I think as a friendly law enforcement discount, so I didnt even check with him what the ARB would be yet....but it could be in the $700s possibly.

I do love the look of ARB...if you were close, and it was a direct bolt on for no bodylift, and I could swing by and you'd help me bolt it up on the spot for the right price Id be all over it out of simplicity!! But if I have to figure out ordering new mounts, plus a trip to SD, could end up costing me more than a new ARB from my mechanic(especially with gas prices the trip might end up being a $75 trip in gas alone with these damn SoCa prices!).

Next weekend Ill be done with exams, if you could find the mounts or however to bolt it on to mine, help me do it at your place, and make the price right Id consider jumping on it, then get the Savage rear bumper. I still do love the ARB bumper and how it looks, clean, sharp, etc...but the Savage bumpers are bad ass to me and super affordable! Company looks like it has nice sliders and skid plates too!

You could remedy that problem with spray paint of your choice rather than armor all.

Lol yes I just use the same spraypaint and its unnoticed. IMO powdercoating something like sliders is a waste of money. They are there to get scratched up...and a lot of big long deep scratches

I have Savage sliders and full skids and have put them to the test. They work great. The owner Roy is a great guy to deal with too. A great product.

As far as the skids and the oil and trans fluid changes yes they have to be unbolted but Roy pieced it together in such a way that it is an easy one man job and just takes a few minutes. The skids are engineered for easy on and off. I painted all my stuff with spray on bedliner. Looks and works great and easy touch up too.

My concern is the front skid is made of 2 plates that give a grater angel and potentially a stronger impact. Also unlike the bud built or skid row the savage skid does not cover the LCA mounts and bolts.

I'm currently looking in to skids and trying to decide what to get, so if I'm over analyzing some one please correct me.

I finally had the chance to install my Savage skids yesterday but ran into a problem, my old skid was sheared off along with all the bolts, now I can't extract these busted bolts - tried that as seen on TV Speedout bolt extractor but no luck. Where can I get these things drilled out, will a mechanic do it or do I need to find a machine shop? Never had this problem so I don't know where to start?

I can highly recommend the rear bumper(it's the only savage product I have). Fantastic fit, finish, and quality... Nothing but good things to say about it...

I feel your pain...Any competent mechanic will have the tools and experience to get those out for you.
