might have been people dumping left over supplies from a harvest.
found a wack of stuff in the woods here. buckets, fertilizer, shovels, pvc pipe.
you never know, should probably carry something just incase though.
and at the very least you coulda shot it like the others suggested

I always carry when I'm out there.

I actually was a little worried about that. That's why I didn't dig it up. I didn't want anything blowing up in my face.

I have heard of folks using a 2 bucket system to grow Pot in the woods, hanging it high in the trees. The bottom bucket would have water in it and the top bucket would have holes in it's bottom to allow transfer of water, and the plant would be grown in the top bucket, creating a maintenance free self watering system. Strung high up in the trees, most hikers would not notice them.

It's probably a scent dispersal system. You put a scent source on a stake or pin in the center of the cleared area, and cover with the bucket. The scent passes through the holes in the bucket and hopefully attract the animal you are hunting.
