Seat Belt Tensioner Problem = SRS (Airbag) Light

So, I have had a blinking SRS (Airbag) light on my rig. I took it to a guy I know that has a code reader specifically for the SRS (Airbag) system. He tells me the driver’s side seat belt tensioner appears to be the problem. I have a 2000 T4R and apparently, on the 2000-2002 models, there is an “explosive squibb” in the tensioner unit itself.

I am going to try and find a whole unit from a pull yard. Seems like it’s got to be a 2000 year model or later.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do to correct it? Any input/help is appreciated!

Don't have any experience with it directly... but I can tell you that the '99's also have the pretensioner squib in the front seatbelts.

First, try an unplug and re-plug of the tensioner and check the wiring in that area - you may have a problem with something other than the squib. Really, the error usually comes from something being unplugged.

That's a good suggestion. Perhaps something just came unplugged.

In trying to figure out what to do, I discovered there are companies that actual inspect, refurb/repair seatbelt systems. One company (www.safetyrestore.com) has a pretty good price for this ($65). If there is nothing unplugged, I am thinking of pulling the assembly and sending it to one of these companies. Lot less hassle than trying to pull one from a parts yard and apparently, these items are not for sale on Toyota of Dallas.

Did you resolve this? I am having the same issue and the dealer said the passenger side seat belt is the culprit. Of course they want $450 to fix.

I actually did some research on the internet and found some companies that can repair the sealt belt issues. I used www.safetyrestore.com. For $65, they fixed it and backed it up with a warranty. Helluva lot cheaper than stealership $450!!!!!
