Driver's Seat Noise (popping)... One Solution!

2004 Sport w/ manual seats.

This is the popping noise that is sometimes heard accelerating or decelerating. These seats apparently have many hard to find reasons for the "pop". No one solution for everyone.

My noise was eliminated after torquing down just ONE bolt! Its the one located behind the lower seat trim, left side of the driver's seat, and near the round adjustment knob. Remove the trim. Look for a torx head bolt, about the size of a nickle. It requires a T40 torx socket and a beefy 1/2 drive wrench.

At first, it felt extremely tight... but a little more did the trick. I REALLY cranked down on the wrench to get maybe a 1/16 movement on the bolt. A 1/2 drive wrench or larger is required to get the leverage needed to TORQUE THE SHIT out of this bolt.

My popping sound is gone.

I had my entire seat replaced under warranty the first time around and the problem went away. Now that I'm out of warranty and the problem started to resurface, I lubed the crap out of the rails under the seat...problem solved.

You may be on to something here. My seat has squeaked for years and I would grease it occasionally to quiet it for a while. I tightened the bolt today as you said you did and it seemed to have stopped the squeak. I will have to give it more time to see if it last. It was not a completely fair test today because I had the windows down some of the time because it was so nice out today and may have drowned out the sound with wind noise.
