Second admendment

Second gives the citizen the right to own the same weapons the military has! Remember the Red Coats were trying to disarm the patriots at Lexington of their weapons. - including the CANNONS! Think about it, if we have to fight a tyrannical force, how are you going to do it with only a semi auto? Yes, I do mean, if you can afford it, the citizen should have an Abrams, or a F35. The patriots of 1776 in many cases had better arms then the British. Rise Patriot and demand your God given right to arm!

Call, write, harass your "political servant". Demand they remove all gun laws!

Demand they understand simple English: "Shall NOT be infringed

Oops, so bite me, I type fast and don't proph red. LOL. You grammar NAZIs!

This seems a political can of worms and I was warned that politics are not an open topic for discussion.

This is the problem because "what is politics" isn't clear.

Based my observations of 1engineer I'm starting to think on T4R it means don't mention Democrats or Republicans or libtards or any other slang against political orientation, especially one being better than the other. That talk certainly isn't helpful.

BUT given that the real reason I believe politics was banned is that so many members cry to the mods about their delicate little feelings being hurt that it floods the mods inbox and is very annoying I assume.

The Vegas thread was an attempt to ease up this policy, trial run maybe? I'm sure plenty crying to mods still ensued. How about everyone man up and stop making baseless complaints to the mods...... the internet is not a "safe space" despite whatever your Facebook and college told you. Ironically I went to super liberal UCSC and never met as many close minded folks as I've seen on social media the last 24 months.

I'd love to be able to chat politics and I can certainly do it without slanting whole groups of political parties or beliefs. But at the end of the day do I really need to know which members think affirmative action is just plain stupid and divisive or which members love guns or which members think some immigration isn't always great, or which members supported el presidento but now regret it? That is an open question. I just don't know.

If I could err though it would be on the side of free speech.

Frankly off topic conversations would be a lot more tolerable if far more members were interested in finding middle ground with those they perceive to disagree with. Instead of shutting down into little ideological bubbles try to be more like Daryl Davis on Netflix and reach out to those you oppose.

The constitution is a living document.

:fencing:

Without the 2nd amendment, you have nothing left. America as most of you think you know it is over with. What remains is an empty shell.

Politics are fake, the wars are fake, the 'terrorism' is fake, the 'money' is fake, media is fake, and on and on..

The zombie apocalypse is indeed real, they're all around us... Currently they're far more interested in 'bread and circus' than brains...That is, until this house of cards implodes...

America has become the greatest Ponzi Scheme ever attempted......I think as long as there are no Personal attacks, We should be free to discuss anything.:banana:

Significantly more shocking to me is the removal of the first amendment (namely freedom of speech) on a daily basis. You can't really speak freely if there are rules to political correctness. I make it a point to aim for offensive language. I feel not using words (specifically racial ones) actually gives the words power. Remember the "C" word? 2 generations ago it was almost domestic abuse to use.. Now because it's used somewhat more regularly it has lost its power. It's really hard for the Offendees to see that with them removed, Offenders would cease to exist immediately. If you don't get bothered by simple words, then the words don't have power...

Man I just attacked politics, racism, sexism, society... What am I forgetting?

Oh right my bad: churches are tax free money machines.

Did I hit my target of offenses for a single post?

The constitution is a living document.

:fencing:

No, it is not. It is a legal document with legal constructs written into it to be amended based on laws passed by the people.

It is not a malleable document that one changes to best suit their intentions.

It should always be interpreted literally from a legal aspect.

Legislation should always come from the legislature which represents the people, never from the courts.

If you want it to be a living document you give all of the power to the courts, and undermine the entire system and division of power we have in our Constitutional Republic- bad idea!

From the preamble to the Bill of Rights:

"The conventions of a number of the states, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its (Congress) powers, that further... declaratory and restrictive clauses... should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution."

The framers added this preamble and the Bill of Rights to protect us from people who seek to subvert and destroy the rights we all inherently have.

2A:

A well-regulated Militia, (declaratory clause)
being necessary to the security of a Free State, (declaratory clause)
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, (declaratory clause)
shall not be infringed. (Restrictive clause)

Gun grabbers and the anti-free speech crowd may hate the U.S. Constitution, but it's still the supreme law of the land. And it is most certainly not a living document.

When applied to the Constitution the term living document is used for evisceration of the Constitution and usurpation of power. It always increases federal power. It never reduces or limits power.

That runs 100% counter to the intent of the Constitution and the founding of our Constitutional Republic itself.

The framers stated many times the Judicial branch was to be the weakest of the three branches. Apply the rules from the preamble to the Bill of Rights and the meaning of 2nd becomes very clear.

Trying to reinterpret The constitution/legal document as a living one is dangerous and wrong. It gives supreme power to the courts and Judicial review of the Constitution itself (A power never granted to the judicial branch) and weakens the checks and balances we have in place. It gives too much power over everyone to a select/small group of Justices.

I wish everyone would really research the intent behind the Constitution.

Read the Constitution. Study the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers and George Washington’s farewell address.

1786-1800 < Documents < American History From Revolution To Reconstruction and beyond

^Good resource for anyone wanting access to just about every historical document to research for themselves.

The founder’s own words provide the blueprint for understanding:

Jefferson voiced this admonition: “On every question of construction, carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.”

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, Dec. 20, 1787.

“A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined.” – George Washington, First Annual Address to both houses of Congress, Jan. 8, 1790.

“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, Jan. 30, 1787.

“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, June 5, 1824.

“To disarm the people…is the most effectual way to enslave them.” – George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adoption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788.

“The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.” – Samuel Adams, Massachusetts Ratifying Convention, 1788.

“The people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them.” –Zachariah Johnson (delegate to Virginia Ratifying Convention), Elliot’s Debates, vol. 3, “The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adoption of the Federal Constitution.”

I haven't seen it in a while, did it get locked?

Wait, one more thing ....

" Rights, Town Hall - We really don’t need to have a conversation about our rights to keep and bear arms. They’re rights. There’s nothing to talk about. The left, including its pet media, thinks that our rights were merely iterated, and that the left can take an eraser to the parchment and – voila! – no more pesky rights for you flyover people. Nah. I think we’ll keep ‘em. I, for one, am not super inclined to give up my ability to defend myself in response to demands by people who eagerly tell me they want me enslaved or dead. Literally dead. We know that us having rights is inconvenient, but that’s too damn bad. Because we aren’t asking you for our rights. We’re telling you we aren’t giving them up."

It is too bad we seem to have so many who want to re-write our Constitution and even our history. Like the so called separation of church and state.
