Securing your dog off-road

I have a small healer mix he’s about 25 lbs. I keep him in a crate for the faster driving and let him run along side the 4Runner on the slower more technical parts. He does great with both!

Any body have good crate recommendations or help with sizing? I'm eying up the RuffLand ones for my 75lb lab mix. Is Large too small? XL too big? Want to keep as much cargo space as possible, but obviously don't want him cramped up.

We've used the harness to the seatbelt on our old dog and that worked (she HATED crates), but have two car seats now and would prefer our new boy in a kennel since he's comfortable in them.

Our Rott is 11 months old now and right around 80 lbs. I ordered the extra large and will also be using the dog crate mat I purchased from Walmart. I ordered it with the side door so it will be easy to get her in and out. I also ordered extra holes curt out in it. I will be securing it in the rear with heavy duty straps.

Ohhh thank you. I did not realize the side door was an option. Did they give you an ETA on time? Seems they are backordered everywhere.

I would love to try these out in person somewhere as I feel he is an in between size. The XL would take up the entire back, which is not an idea I love since we need the cargo room. I decided to order a Raingler rear net for behind the back seat as he jumped over the seats immediately on a short drive the other day. I tied him down with a leash in a harness after that and he actually seemed just fine and laid down once the thought of moving free about the cabin was erased.

Update: I went and ordered the Ruffland Large SUV angled back in orange. The normal "square" one would be pushing it close fitting too, if at all. I saw a pic someone shared with the Large SUV model and it fits great. Looks like up to 16 weeks out, so will have to be patient. The XL is just too big and I'd have to turn it sideways taking up my entire trunk. This one will only take up half. We'll see how he fits!
