Sell, Buy or Build..Opinions Please

Here is the conundrum. My 4th gen is sitting in my warehouse doing nothing. I have several other 4runners to drive and I do not want this one in the salt, so it stays inside.

I have been considering selling it to get another 5th gen (for some production reasons) 2010 or 2011. I have a ton of the stuff to do the Solid axle on it including; PSC full hydro steering, Dana 60s front and rear with 5:38 gears and locked, Fox Coilovers, and 16 Johnny joints for 4 link. I even bought a 6cy transfer case so i could twin stick it.

Recently I am talking to someone about them buying my 4th gen.

So what would you do...?

Sell it..Get a 5th gen?

Build it (SAS)....?

Sell it... SAS my 3rd gen?

Keep it and do nothing right now because I am too torn.....


Sorry to bother anyone with my problems, but this whole talking about selling my 4th gen (my only V8) leaves me a little frazzled.

I want to say swap it, but that's gonna be a heavvvvy truck. And you'll want to abuse it too. So up to you.

You could also sell it and use the money to buy a 3rd gen pickup or 1st gen runner and then link it and put it on tons.

I do love a SAS 4th gen V8 though...
 
If i were you:hatsoff::cool:, maybe I will not sell. Because I like it, I could have so much. Will not sell.

I have a first gen, but if I were going to SAS it i would use my Dana 44s. I think 60s are a bit much for the 1st gens.

I REALLY REALLY like my V8...and even if I get another 5th gen, I know I will miss the V8...ans it does not look like a supercharger is going to happen any time soon....

That completely depends on the tire size that you would want to run and how much power your engine will have. Heck, the weight will only help you since that will be lowering your COG.

YES & NO I have a 1983 Truck with a Lexus V8. It is being built as my trail rig, problem is..we had an extra kid...so now a reg cab is not going to cut it. I figured if I bought a 2010 T4R now, in a few years I cold SAS it. Not sure i would, I'm just thinking out loud.

Good point, most likely I would run a 37-40, but the full width 60s look out of place on the 1st gen IMO, and i am not willing to have them cut down and buy all new shafts.


That said.. I still think I agree with you, it may be better to just keep my 4th gen and not mess with what already working... thanks
 
Keep the V8. Also at some point your kids will be driving. Why by someone else’s POS that you nothing about. Just pass them down to the next generation!

im going to have a 60 cut down soon, and have been talking to the shop about it.

according to them, the inners don't neck down, so no need for new axles, just have the stock ones cut and resplined.
