She got a hot oil spray today!

Chainsaw oil heated up in a microwave and sprayed on frame, wheel wells, inside doors, under-carraige, and just about everywhere except the exhaust. Shes going to dripping a little for a few days. One treatment a year for three years and I will have a nice protective coating for years to come!

I used to treat my old truck ('85 F150 step side with wooden bed) with waste oil and it worked really well. That truck had almost no rust at all after 20 years in New England and that's sayin' something.

I am presuming that this is your shop microwave and not the one in your kitchen ... actually, I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that.

What kind of sprayer did you use?

Yeah, In new England, we take a finely tuned combination of sand and salt to first, expose the metal beneath the paint and then begin eating away at it relentlessly until you find yourself sitting on the road bed one day as you drive to the grocery store...

Where are you in NH Hape? I'm in Chester and MikeinNH is around here somewhere.

Doesn't dirt and debris and maybe an occasional small animal just stick to all that wet oil? I guess it's easier for me to just avoid the east coast.

Years ago when I was young and poor, my first runner had a oil leak somewhere and I didn't have the knowledge or money to have it located. It was annoying and I could never park on nice driveways...

but... man did it keep my underbelly rust free.

I'm in Deerfield, home of the Deerfield fair. There is a garage in Loudon that does this undercoating service. That's all they do and they are very busy with it. It takes a couple of months to get an appointment. It takes them an hour and 15 minutes to do one service. Basically heating up chain saw oil in a microwave and putting in a sprayer. The sprayer shoots a fine mist and they can pinpoint each area that they spray on. They also drill and plug into doors if there is no access and do all the areas that typically rust out. I have spoke with some of the clients while waiting and they say it is a difference between night and day with cars that get the treatment. They look great ten years later and other cars are all rusted out. I see new cars even brought to them. I did my 86 el camino last year and plan to do it again later on this summer. They said to bring the 4 runner back each year for the next two years and then do it every other year afterwards and you won't have any rust problems. It used to 99 bucks but now the price has gradually increased to 130.00. I think its worth it. I just had to replace both leaf spring shackles on my 97 ford explorer due to rust. Since I plan to keep the 4runner for a while, might as well try to keep the rust at bay by using this service.
