She's Back!

So sense August of 2012 I've been struggling with horrible gas mileage. During for the first 4 months I was getting 150 miles a tank. Then around late November I changed the IAC that I had been ignoring for the last year or so. After that brought me up to 200 miles a tank. I've done many tune ups and such during those 4 months. New fuel filter, air filter, spark plug wires, etc... I get more detailed in my other thread. Anyway I've been trying to convince my dad to have her motor vaced. He was having trouble opening his mind to it at first. This was early September right after I read Brian2suns thread about his motor vac experience. Any way another 2 or 3 months went by and Christmas came. One of my Christmas presents from my parents was the motor vac car service. I had it done yesterday. These are my results. Now keep in mind my needle would be at the halfway mark at 75 miles, then with my new IAC it would be halfway at 90 miles.

This motor vac service was great. I'm seeing a huge improvement already. This is the first tank of gas sense I just had it done yesterday. I filled her up right after the service. I did top it off completely though. Anyway I'm just super stoked guys. Its gonna be nice to get my mpg back! I just took that picture about 10 minutes ago right after going on a drive with my dad, now he wants to take her to a trial up in Lockwood valley..Anyway I forgot to mention during those 4 months I really didn't update my build thread to much, but now I feel a little more compelled to show you all the minor cosmetics that I've done. I have my satoshi grill and my painted skids on my build soon. Hopefully we can do the trial this Saturday I'm looking forward to driving her again!

How many gallons do you usually fill when ur at empty? And is that all highway miles?

My quarter tank is about 3.25 to 3.5 gallons since my light comes on and i only fill about 13-14 gallons till its full again. And best case scenario i end up with 75 at quarter. :l

That's pretty awesome! Can you give me the info on the motor vac service? I was looking it up and it looks great, but I can't find prices or places or anything.

That was about 28 city miles and the rest was all freeway miles. My light comes on early I usually only put in about 13 gallons as well if I give her gas right when the light comes on. This tank I put in 17.9 gallons topped off.

Price for the service?

I just took off the throttle body. Then unscrewed the IAC and screwed the new one on. Took about 20 minutes. Does your truck have a CEL because that will help you figure out why your mpg is so bad. Also the price for my service was $141.72

NO CEL lights.

No black deposit in the exhaust too. Starts right out. Recently cleaned the throttle body and inserted new spark plugs. OEM toyota air filter less than 1000 miles.

I am about to take a 300 miles trip soon. Will check the mileage then.

from what I've gathered it's what alot of shops call a Fuel Induction service, where they run a cleaning/anti carbon agent through your intake (or the biggie is through the EGR port) run the engine up to 2500 rpms and blast the carbon out. works great in the end we have the BG version at my shop.

What did the motor-vac service entail? Is it just a de-carboning kind of thing?

They hooked up the machine to my fuel system and then they let it idle for around 2-4 hours. The machine has a detergent in their that is suppose to degunk all that carbon and bad stuff in your fuel system. Its a all out fuel system cleaning.

That's weird. Where do you idle at when your warmed up? Maybe you could use a motor vac service. How many miles does your truck have?

You only got the fuel system cleaning? They have so many different cool services.

What kind of gas do you fill? Like brand? (top tier, etc)

I looked online and it seems like its a fuel line cleaner, injectors and all and is most beneficial to people who use the no name gas from thrifty etc. But numbers dont lie, nice mileage! Update us after a few tanks yea?

Sure I will. Just came back from a big trip from Lockwood. 250 miles on the tank still got a quarter tank in her! Anyway I usually fill up at my local Arco or Valero. Some times chevron when its cheap. Anyway this tank of gas the one I'm currently on, that I just got after the motor vac is chevron so yeah.

Seems like its really working wonders for you!
Also try to get us a figure on mainly city driving if you can :)

I will make sure to do that because school starts again in a week and when that happens all I do is city driving. Seriously though its like 85-90% city driving.

So after I just filled her up again yesterday. I used 15.3 and got 322 miles. I averaged 21 mpg. This was like 70-85% free way. This next tank of gas is going to be mostly city probably 80-90% city sense school is starting next Monday.
